Samsung Galaxy S7 vs Galaxy S5

If you’re due an upgrade on your Galaxy S5, here’s a video you’ll want to check out. It’s our comparison of the Galaxy S5 and the all-new Galaxy S7.

Design and display

Despite the svelte new looks, when it comes to water-resistance the Galaxy S7 is even better protected against the elements than the Galaxy S5. It’s certified as IP68, which means you don’t have to worry about water damage if you get caught in a downpour.

And while the display remains the same size at 5.1-inches, the Galaxy S7 now has a much higher Quad HD resolution. In fact, it’s been rated as the best smartphone display ever.

The Galaxy S7 is also the first Samsung phone to feature an Always On display. This innovative feature lets you quickly see new notifications, without having to unlock your phone.

The Galaxy S7 has an all-new Dual Pixel 12MP camera, and it’s amazing.

The Galaxy S5’s camera might have more megapixels (16MP), but make no mistake - the Galaxy S7 camera is streets ahead. There are a lot of reasons for this. For a start, the Galaxy S7 camera has a state-of-the-art Sony IMX260 sensor that uses bigger pixels. And it also features innovative Dual Pixel technology, which uses every single one of its pixels for autofocus (a typical smartphone camera uses less than 5%).

Under the hood

You’ll find multitasking much slicker and faster on the Galaxy S7. That’s thanks to its giant 2.3GHz octa-core processor, compared with the Galaxy S5’s quad-core offering.

Let’s talk battery life. The Galaxy S5 has a decent 2,800mAh battery, but a lot has changed in two years. The Galaxy S7 comes with a bigger battery and uses faster charging technology, so it lasts longer and can get topped up quicker than any of its predecessors.

Storage capacity

We’re really pleased to see that removable storage has made a comeback on the Galaxy S7, after its absence from the Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S7 can take a microSD card of up 200GB – that’s a real step up from the Galaxy S5’s 128GB expandable storage capacity.

Is the Galaxy S7 the phone for you?

If you want your next phone to be the best Galaxy ever, you can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge now. When you do, you’ll get your new phone three days before general release, and we’ll even throw in the new Samsung Gear VR so you can enjoy your very own virtual reality experience.
