The best of the best
Long gone are the days in which we had to carry a mobile phone and a camera, and it’s all thanks to how the technology in our smartphones has advanced. The Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 and Huawei P9 are three smartphones taking things to next level. But how do they compare?
Taking photos indoors doesn’t always go to plan. The artificial lights can alter the colours in the photo unless you know which settings to change, but you can see in our shots that the three smartphones have captured pretty accurate colours, even in auto mode.
Overall though, the Huawei P9 has taken the best photo. It maintains a natural tone throughout and the bright lights don't take over as much as they do with the S7 and G5.
Outdoors, camera phones normally perform better because they’ve got natural light to work with. So it wasn't easy splitting our three flagships.
As you can see, they’re all incredibly sharp photos and the colours look very natural. But, it's the LG G5 bringing it home. It offers a much brighter image throughout the image, while picking out more colour and light.
The selfie craze is still going strong, and that's largely to do with the fact that our front-facing cameras are getting better all the time.
All three shots of our presenter represent balanced colour, but we're going to side with the Samsung Galaxy S7 on this one. The sky looks much bluer, while her skin tones look much more natural.
Close-ups, or macro shots, are now more achievable that ever, giving you that professional-looking blur. It's all about concentrating on the object that's closest to the lens, and picking out as much detail.
All three of our smartphones are set to be great at this kind of shot - and looking at the photos, they are. But the Huawei P9 has created the best effect overall, with richer colours and a more defined depth of field.
The toughest photos for any phone to take are ones in poorly lit conditions. If you’re on a night out, you normally find this is where camera phones fall down – so is it the same with the latest and greatest?
Thankfully that isn’t the case here. A proper camera would obviously capture a better shot, but the smartphones haven't done too bad. The standout here though is the Samsung Galaxy S7. There's minimal noise in the evening sky, like on the G5, and its managed to pick out more colours depsite the lack of light.
Overall, the S7, G5 and P9 are really close in camera terms, so tell us which one you think comes out on top in the comments. And if you want to see more on these phones or order them, hit the links in the description below.
