How do you like to listen to music? Do you blast it out with friends or do you prefer to relax with some tunes by yourself?
However you listen to your music, the HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z3 are two of the best phones for enjoying your favourite songs. They both have stereo speakers and can play uncompressed music files (.flac files instead of .mp3) for better sound quality.
But which is the best of the best? Our video below compares the speakers on these two mighty music phones to find out.
But if you’re not completely sold on these two audio kings, there are a lot of other phones that’ll make your music sound fantastic. Here are our other top music phones.
Sound quality from the LG G3 is pretty perfect. Every note is produced cleanly without any distortion, something that the two phones above can’t quite manage. But as it only has a single speaker, compared to the stereo ones seen in the One M8 and Z3, it’s not fantastically loud. But if you care more about clarity than volume, you won’t be able to fault the LG G3.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S5
The Samsung Galaxy S5 isn’t far behind the LG G3 in terms of quality and is slightly louder than its Korean rival. It also has some really good software features for your music. There’s a great equaliser so you can fine tune what you hear, Smart Volume that keeps the sound level consistent across tracks and Adapt Sound, which tests your headphones and automatically tunes the equaliser for them. But like the G3 it only has one speaker, so it’s not as loud as the Z3 and M8.
BlackBerry might not be a name you’d think of if you’re looking for a music phone, but the Passport is a surprising gem. Bass and treble are both produced really well and the volume can be turned up pretty loud. There’s not much opportunity to fine tune your music like there is with the Galaxy S5, but that’s not a huge problem for most of us as the standard quality is so good.
NOKIA LUMIA 735
If you want a music phone but don’t want to spend big money on a top of the range smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 735 is a great bet. Highs and lows are better than you’d expect for a mid-range phone and the volume can be cranked up higher than on most other phones. But the thing that makes the Lumia 735, and all other Nokia smartphones, really stand out is MixRadio. This handy app lets you listen to hundreds of thousands of tracks for free and even automatically creates personalised playlists based on your music tastes.
SONY XPERIA E1
The Sony Xperia E1 is a great budget music phone thanks to impressive volume, good sound quality and the Walkman app. One cool feature of the app is that you can filter songs by what mood you want, like upbeat, mellow or dance. There are also good features to tune your music, with a decent equaliser and ClearAudio+, which automatically sets the best settings for each track.
