Curved phones have been the talk of the mobile world for quite a while now. The use of new plastics has meant phone screens don’t just have to be flat anymore, but up until this point, phone manufacturers haven’t really taken proper advantage of this fantastic new feature.
That is until now. Samsung have just announced a special edition of their Galaxy Note 4, the new Galaxy Note Edge. While to all intents and purposes, this smartphone is the same as the Note 4, it has the unusual addition of a curved right hand edge, sloping down at around 45 degrees.
This separate screen works best when the main screen is switched off. Turn the sloped screen towards yourself in meetings, and get discrete notifications like text messages, emails or diary updates. Watching a movie on the main screen? The edge can subtly alert you to a notification without ruining the action on the main screen.
Best of all, rather than a bright, flashy screen waking you up in the morning, you can now get your alarm to display on the edge…so it’s a much more gentle way to start the day.
We’re not quite sure if Samsung are bringing this new smartphone to the UK quite yet, however even if they don’t, we’re finally seeing manufacturers properly taking advantage of curved screen technology, so we can’t wait to see what’s next.
