What should we expect from the new iPhone in 2019? Rumours are already circulating, and we’ve rounded up a few to give you an idea of what might be in store.
“According to reports, Apple is getting ready to ditch the Lightning port in favour of USB-C on the iPhone 11, and is apparently abandoning 3D Touch as well.” - T3.com
“Apple will continue to improve its in-house mobile chip technology this year. The iPhone 11 is expected to feature the A13 processor, which Apple started producing earlier this year with its partner TSMC. The A13 is being built on a 7nm+ process, and estimates suggest that it should offer notable performance improvements over the A12X processor.” - 9to5mac.com
Just one important thing to note as you read through this article – even though these rumours are from reputable worldwide publications, they’re still just rumours. We won’t know if they’re true until Apple officially unveils the new iPhones in September!
Are three new handsets coming?
According to Time.com “Apple is planning to launch three new iPhones, as it has done each year since 2017: “Pro” iPhone models to succeed the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max as well as a successor to the iPhone XR.”
“As with the 2018 iPhones, it seems we’ll get three new handsets with the new iPhones for 2019, according to respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo – and they'll have 6.1-inch, 5.8-inch, and 6.5-inch screens, just like this year.” - T3.com
What will the new iPhones be called?
“Rumour: The iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11R and iPhone 11 Max.
The consensus is that Apple will call its next flagship the iPhone 11, and that part feels like a no-brainer. But as to the names of the particular models - all bets are off. The company has traditionally reserved the "Pro" designation for its highest-end products… and, perhaps starting in 2019, its most premium iPhone.” - CNET.com
When will the new iPhone be available in the UK?
“Like every year, we've been doing some sleuthing around the possible iPhone 11 release date, and we think we've got a pretty good idea around what's coming:
- iPhone 11 launch date: September 10, 2019
- iPhone 11 pre-order date: September 13, 2019
- iPhone 11 release date: September 20, 2019” - Techradar.com
OLED displays for two of the three new iPhones?
“The displays on this year’s iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max are expected to be unchanged compared to the iPhone XS series. Both will feature OLED panels, with the iPhone 11 measuring 5.8-inches and the iPhone 11 Max measuring 6.5-inches.” - 9to5mac.com
“The iPhone XR successor in the 2019 iPhone may be the last iPhone to feature an LCD display as Apple is said to be "likely" to transition to an all-OLED lineup starting in 2020.” - Macrumors.com
A new and improved camera system?
“The main feature of the Pro iPhones will be a new camera system on the back with a third sensor for capturing ultra-wide-angle photos and videos. The extra camera will let users zoom out and capture a larger field of view. The sensors will capture three images simultaneously and use new artificial intelligence software to automatically correct the combined photo if, for example, a person is accidentally cut out of one of the shots. The new system will also take higher resolution pictures rivalling some traditional cameras. Photos taken in very low-light environments will improve, too." - Bloomberg.com
Major changes expected under the hood
“Apple eliminated 3D Touch in the iPhone XR, replacing it with a new Haptic Touch feature, and rumours have suggested the same thing could happen in the 2019 iPhone lineup… bigger batteries are expected, perhaps to accommodate the new camera technology, so battery life could be somewhat extended.” - Macrumors.com
