A super-wide screen from Sony?
Sony has a long history of announcing new phones at MWC. Last year it was the Xperia XZ2 and this year, we’re hearing rumours of a whole new Xperia.
According to various leaked renders online, the phone will feature a dual lens camera, super-wide 21:9 aspect ratio and a whopping 6.5-inch notch-less screen.
It’s relatively safe to assume that one of the rear lenses will be capable of capturing wide-angled images and combined with the super-wide screen, this could be the perfect combination for taking and viewing incredible video and pictures.
Is OPPO set to reveal a foldable phone?
Following OPPO’s UK launch event in January, the company has attracted plenty of rumours about handsets featuring groundbreaking tech – from foldable phones to fingerprint scanners built into the screen.
While there’s sure to be some truth to these rumours, it’s not clear what the company is planning on unveiling at MWC.
Rumours of a foldable phone were sparked by Dutch website Tweakers, which recently reported that Chuck Wang, Product Owner at OPPO had confirmed that the company was working on a foldable phone which would be unveiled at MWC.
OPPO has since announced that it will be giving more information about the device at MWC in February, but that the company is not yet ready to show the phone.
Xiaomi rumoured to demo a screen-based fingerprint scanner
In the UK, we might not be too familiar with the name Xiaomi, but last year the Chinese giant became the world's fourth largest smartphone manufacturer. And it’s a company that’s been introducing some impressive devices into the market.
In January, Xiaomi released a short video clip which gave us a brief demo of a phone with a fingerprint scanner built into the screen. In the video it seems to be possible to touch anywhere on the screen to unlock the phone using a fingerprint – and that’s something we’d love to hear more about at MWC.
Will Huawei be “revealing the unprecedented”?
While other manufacturers have been dropping hints about folding phones, Huawei has dropped a little more than a hint. On the 1st Feb, the company posted an image on its official UK Twitter account that appeared to show a handset with a folding screen. The accompanying message read “We’re revealing the unprecedented at @MWCapital”. So whatever they’re planning, it sounds big.
Other rumours suggest that the device will be 5G-enabled and capable of super-fast download speeds, and that it will also feature the powerful Kirin 980 processor. One thing’s for sure, with folding screens and 5G, it’s going to need a lot of processing power.
A five-lens smartphone from Nokia?
This is a rumour that’s been kicking around for the last couple of months and we’re hoping Nokia is planning on using MWC to confirm the truth in the speculation.
It might all still be rumours and hearsay but there’s a lot of information out there about the next flagship from Nokia. Leaked renders show a staggering five camera lens arrangement on the back of the phone, plus a light sensor and flash.
Phone specs specialists, GSM Arena has released a host of specifications and features for the Nokia 9, but as yet, we haven’t heard anything concrete from Nokia. However, it’s looking increasingly likely that they’ll use MWC to reveal much more about this intriguing new phone.
