Top downloads: Star Wars

Each week we’ll be talking about the best things we’ve downloaded from the app stores, to keep you up to date on the latest and greatest entertainment.
Top downloads: Star Wars

This week, however, is the announcement of Star Wars becoming available to download. So, we totally nerded out…

A long time ago in galaxy not so far, far away, Star Wars was created by Lucas Film and it quickly became a cinematic sensation. It’s been recognised as one of the most iconic film series’ of all time, and as of 10 April it’s available to download from your favourite app store for the first time ever.

Yes, Star Wars really is being repackaged and resold, yet again. We’ve now got the whole thing on VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, and now we’ll probably have to download it, just because there’s some extra commentary and interviews with the cast. Damn you, Disney.

If you’ve been living under a rock your whole life, and have no idea if these really are the droids you’re looking for, here’s a crash course. No spoilers – obviously.

The original three films (episodes IV, V and VI) follow the Rebel Alliance (Jedi Knights and friends – goodies), and their attempt to overthrow the Galactic Empire, led by Emperor Palpatine and his apprentice, Darth Vader (Sith Lords – baddies).

Our hero, Luke Skywalker, begins training to become a Jedi, as he hopes to assist in the destruction of The Empire’s Death Star – a space station capable of destroying planets.

Episodes I, II and III are prequels to the original trilogy, in which we see the swiftly growing talents of young Anakin, an ambitious boy who works and lives on the planet Tatooine. Unbeknownst to Anakin however, a dark future lies ahead of him…

Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection is available from iTunes, Google Play. Amazon and Xbox video. You can buy or rent them individually, or download all six films and enjoy 15% bulk buy discount.

In the run up to Shakespeare Day (23 April), we thought it necessary to celebrate the works on Ian Doescher, who has completely rewritten the Star Wars chronicles in the style of The Bard of Avon.

His works include William Shakespeare’s Star Wars, The Empire Striketh Back, The Jedi Doth Return, The Phantom of Menace, The Clone Army Attacketh (available 7 July) and Tragedy of the Sith’s Revenge (available 8 September).

The first four books are available to download from your favourite app store now, and the latter two will be available to order from Amazon soon.

If you’ve ever dreamt of being part of the action, this is a great place to start – especially for a free game. As you build up your civilisation, you will be contacted by both the Rebellion and the Empire as they try to recruit your team – you just have to choose which side to fight for.

You must then lead your army into battle in search of bounty and resource, in an attempt to defeat your opposition.

Available to download from your favourite app store.

John Williams is responsible for some of the greatest and most iconic soundtracks in film, with his work spanning seven decades, of course including Star Wars.

Few composers could instil fear with just two notes, as Williams did with the ‘ Theme From Jaws’, nor could they weave so much magic into a composition as he famously did with title music for Harry Potter. The man is a genius, and we hope to hear more music from him soon.

Album available onSpotify.

And, as if by magic, the second trailer for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens has just been unleashed on the internet. Enjoy.
