Samsung unpacks the new S10 range

Three’s company, with something for everyone…
Samsung unpacks the new S10 range

We’re at Samsung’s Unpacked 2019 event in London, where three amazing new Galaxy phones have just been unveiled.

The twist? They’re all S10s - for the first time ever, we’ve got three to choose from.

There’s the flagship Galaxy S10, the super-sized Galaxy S10 Plus, and a surprise package - a lower-priced entry-level phone known as the Galaxy S10e.

From what we’ve seen today, the displays and cameras on the new S10s are going to be very special indeed. And that’s not all. The S10 will have some all-new features that have never been seen on a Galaxy smartphone before.

Intrigued? Then sit comfortably, and we’ll take you through everything that Samsung had to say about their fab new flagships.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 – “taking the S series a giant leap further”

The S10 is Samsung’s standard-sized flagship, and it’s a thing of real beauty.

A stunning edge-to-edge Infinity-O display

The 6.1-inch edge-to-edge display is stunning. Samsung is calling it an Infinity-O display, with the ‘O’ in the name representing the simple dot opening for the camera. The screen has no notch (hurrah for that) and no home button, so you get a completely uninterrupted viewing experience. Your movies and mobile games are going to look absolutely epic on this phone.

Innovative True Vision camera

The S10 will have a 12MP + 12MP + 16MP triple lens camera, and it’ll be what Samsung is calling ‘True Vision’. According to Samsung, this lets you capture every moment just as your eyes see it. If you take a shot of a dazzling sunset, for example, it’ll look just as good as it does in real life.

The triple camera set-up includes an ultra-wide and ultra-zoom lens, and Samsung says this will help you capture whole scenes from every angle – and distance.

The camera also takes great shots in low light. Even when it’s dark, you’ll still get vibrant photos.

An all new ‘S’ series feature - PowerShare

In an ‘S’ series first, Samsung announced that all three S10s will come with: “the superpower to share your power”. In other words, they’ll be rocking a wireless power sharing feature. To bring a friend’s phone back to life, all you need to do is place the two devices back to back, and you’ll start sharing your power with them.

You can also power up accessories like wearables and headphones. So, if your Galaxy Watch is running low when you’re out and about, or your Galaxy Buds give up on you mid-song in the gym, you can give them a boost with some S10 power.

An in-display fingerprint scanner

The S10 (and S10 Plus) come with a neat piece of security tech. It’s an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and it’s the latest way of keeping your phone secure. It sits under the display (so no more smudging your rear camera as you search for a rear fingerprint scanner) and works instantly in all sorts of conditions that other security scanners struggle with - including low temperatures and strong sunlight. Super-secure, instant access… we like the sound of this a lot.

Key features:

· 6.1-inch Infinity-O display

· 12MP + 12MP + 16MP triple rear camera

· 10MP front camera

· PowerShare wireless sharing

· Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus – “everything a phone should be”

The S10 Plus is the supersized smartphone of the family, with a huge 6.4-inch Infinity-O display. It gives you the same quality immersive viewing experience you get on the S10 - but there’s just more of it. If you’re a serious movie buff, this is a display you’ll want to check out.

The 12MP + 12MP + 16MP triple lens camera set-up is identical to the S10’s, but selfie fans are in for a treat – because the S10 Plus has an ultra-wide 10MP + 8MP dual lens front-facing camera. It’s going to be great for those big group selfies, and those shots where you want to show off the great outdoors behind you.

Key features:

· 6.4-inch Infinity-O display

· 12MP + 12MP + 16MP triple rear camera

· 10MP + 8MP front camera

· PowerShare wireless sharing

· Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner

The Samsung Galaxy S10e – “everything you expect from an S series phone”

Finally, the S10e was unveiled. It’s an entry-level smartphone that Samsung says has “everything you expect from an S series phone”. So even though it’s the baby of the bunch, it has an immersive 5.8-inch Infinity-O display and True Vision camera. And its secure fingerprint scanner is a side scanner, so it lets you access your phone in one simple move while holding your S10e completely naturally.

Key features:

· 5.8-inch Infinity-O display

· 16MP + 12MP dual lens rear camera

· 10MP front camera

· Side fingerprint scanner
