The Next is circular
Following the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 in New York on 13 August, the world was treated to a sneak peek of Samsung’s new wearable. Check out the official teaser trailer below.
The long-rumoured smartwatch has gone by a few different codenames over the past few months, including Gear A and Orbis, however it’s now been confirmed as the Gear S2.
From the video, we can see it features a circular face, following in the footsteps of the Moto 360 and LG Watch Urbane – but unusually, no crown.
There also appears to be a wealth of apps available, but none looking particularly Android-ish, suggesting Samsung will stick with its own operating system, Tizen.
Digging a little deeper
The YouTube description reads: ‘What’s next is circular. The new Samsung Gear S2 is coming. Ready to turn.’
‘Ready to turn’ might have something to do with the patent (pictured right) that was released a few months ago, referencing a rotatable bezel which would allow users to scroll through menus. This tech would be the first of its kind, and no doubt an attractive quality to Samsung fans wanting something unique.
All will be revealed at IFA on 3 September (not 9 March, Brits, as the American ad may have you believe).
