Pay for the tube with your phone

EE has a great app called Tap Wallet – Cash on Tap for its phones that lets you pay for things simply by tapping your phone on a card reader. And now its expanded the app so it works on the London Underground as well as all London Buses. No more fumbling for that Oyster card.

Just like the wireless payment on debit and credit cards, you can pay for clothes from Marks & Spencer, lunch at McDonalds and the bus ride home. As long as it’s under £20, the Tap Wallet app lets you pay in over 300,000 locations.

Worried about security? Mastercard has partnered with EE and the Cash on Tap app, so everything’s just as secure as wireless payments on its bank cards.

To use the app, you’ll need to be with EE, Orange or T-Mobile, have a compatible phone (below), install the Tap Wallet – Cash on Tap app, available from the Google Play Store, and you’ll need to load on some cash to the app. That’s easily done with a debit or credit card. Then you’re ready to go.

The app uses technology called NFC. So, while only a few phones support it right now, EE will be able to eventually roll it out to practically any phone that uses NFC! And that’s quite a few phones. So, if your phone isn’t compatible right now, don’t worry. As long as it’s got NFC, EE will be looking to bring it to your phone soon.
