OnePlus 6T: Live from the London launch

We’re in the West End of London, where OnePlus has just taken the wraps of its new OnePlus 6T. And we’re overjoyed to say it was worth the wait! The OnePlus 6T is a 6.4-inch big screen media maestro. It’s crammed to the brim with awesome features, including an amazing dual camera, and some very cool fingerprint sensing technology. We’re already aching to get our hands on it…

The OnePlus 6T is all about speed. Everything from the processor to the fingerprint sensor is designed to make everything fast and effortless. Not to mention gaming - this is a phone that’s built for giving your games a boost. But first…

Pete Lau, Chief Product officer of OnePlus took to the stage to say: “Our aim is to make the single best smartphone possible.” And the OnePlus 6T is very special indeed.

Virtual fingerprint recognition

The first feature OnePlus talked up was its fantabulous new fingerprint unlocking technology. Ever tried unlocking your phone using your fingerprint? It never stops being cool. Well guess what? The OnePlus 6T now makes it even easier thanks to an in-display fingerprint reader.

A fingerprint sensor is hidden beneath the screen, so you can unlock your phone much, much quicker than ever before. In fact, it’s the fastest in the world, able to unlock your phone 0.34 seconds faster than any other fingerprint sensor out there, says OnePlus. And it’s totally secure thanks to the most advanced encryption technology.

That’s not all. OnePlus 6T lets you use all kinds of gestures as shortcuts. OnePlus says Full Screen Gesture is going to be the smoothest and fastest gesture system there is. It’s all about doing the small things even faster. The idea is that doing everything on your phone just feels more natural. You can assign gestures to open the camera, apps, hide away the navigation bar and so much more.

A beautiful design that feels a delight in your hands

The screen itself measures a whopping 6.41-inches – which is going to be an absolute joy for watching movies and playing games on. OnePlus 6T is gorgeous. It’s as slim and light as you like, yet still manages to cram in a ton of technology. OnePlus says it isn’t about curved or straight edges. All it cares about is the best design. And what a beauty it is in Mirror Black and Midnight Black colours.

We were lucky enough to get our hands all over it here at the launch, and we’re pleased to report it feels as good as it looks. OnePlus 6T is super slim, yet feels weighty and solid without being too heavy. It feels just right.

Make low-light shots come to life with Nightscape photography

And when it comes to the camera, OnePlus says it’s what you can do with the camera that counts. You want specs? You got it – the OnePlus 6T has a 16MP (f/1.7) + 20MP (f/1.7) rear camera, and a 20MP (f/1.7) front camera. Together they produce stunning landscapes, night time photography, and portrait shots that you won’t wait to share.

OnePlus 6T is all about making it easier to take those photos. There’s a new Nightscape mode that takes low-light snaps without any effort at all. And it takes them faster – the camera can focus quicker and stitch shots together to create the perfect photo. Nightscape mode will be coming soon in a future update, so watch this space for more when we hear it.

And portrait shots will look more realistic too thanks to Studio Lighting. It’s an exciting feature that OnePlus has been developing for a while, and it shows. Seriously, this mode will make your selfies look like magazine covers. The way it handles lighting is that good – letting you use lighting to bring out your best features and show your best side. We’ll be sure to let you know more about just how good it is in a later hands-on, so do keep an eye out.

A speed demon that keeps on going

Do you feel the need for speed? The OnePlus 6T has you covered. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor and 8GB RAM. It’s super-fast, and can handle any number of apps you can throw at it. You’ll never again have to close apps to speed up performance – you can run as many as you want without lag.

And with so much goodness going on, you’ll want to enjoy your phone as much as possible. That’s why inside you’ll find a 3,700mAh battery to keep you going all day. You’ve also got a meaty 128GB of storage, which you can always boost up to 256GB with a MicroSD card.

Give your gaming a boost

And gamers – OnePlus hasn’t forgotten you. Load up your favourite game on the OnePlus 6T and marvel at how fluid the gameplay looks and feels. Frame rates are butter smooth. And thanks to Smart Boost technology you can expect loading times to be much faster. How much faster? OnePlus claims It decreases load times by up to 20%, so you can enjoy your games without having to wait. It’s only a matter of time before loading times are a thing of the past.

And that’s that!

What do you think, phone fanciers? As you can tell, we’re buzzing with interest. The OnePlus 6T is a super phone, with specs and design to match. It’s got a colossal screen, the world’s fastest fingerprint reader and takes cracking night time photos. And then there’s the speed, which makes the OnePlus 6T a joy to use.

The OnePlus 6T will soon be available to pre-order from Carphone Warehouse, so watch this space. Which feature do you think is the best?
