Microsoft Lumia 650 arrives

The Microsoft Lumia 650 is here. The new mid-range smartphone is Microsoft’s fourth mobile to come with Windows 10, following the Lumia 950 XL, 950 and 550, and it looks pretty impressive.

Windows 10 gives the Lumia 650 great security and access to the likes of Word, Excel and Outlook so you can use it as a mobile office.

It also has an elegant new design, with metal edges giving premium highlights. This makes the Lumia 650 look and feel closer to the high-end Lumia 950 than the cheaper 550.

There’s a new screen too. It’s a 5-inch HD panel that uses AMOLED technology instead of the more common LCD. With the new screen tech, the Lumia 650 should give more vivid colours and deeper blacks that’ll help to make everything you look at stand out.

Microsoft Lumia 650Round the back, Microsoft has squeezed in an 8MP camera, which is pretty good for a budget phone. More impressive, though, is the 5MP selfie cam on the front. It even manages HD video recording, so using the built in Skype app for video calling should be good.

Under the hood, there’s a 2,000mAh battery to keep everything powered up. It’s not the biggest battery out there, but in a phone as slim and elegant as this, it’s a good size. Microsoft says it’ll keep the Lumia 650 going through a busy day, too.

There’s also a pretty speedy quad core processor to make sure your apps runs smoothly, 16GB built in storage space and a slot for a microSD card, which can add up to 200GB of extra memory. All that means the Lumia 650 will be easy to use every day – you won’t get slowed down by lag and you won’t have to worry about filling the phone up with your photos and apps.
