Meet Cortana

Cortana, Microsoft's virtual assistant in Windows Phone 8.1, is designed to understand every English accent. Naturally, we had to see if this was true.

Meet Cortana

"Hi, I’m Cortana..."

Meet Cortana, Windows Phone’s virtual assistant. After starting life in the Halo games series for Xbox, Cortana has made her way across to Microsoft smartphones, and is now present to help make your life easier.

Although she has a long list of talents, including singing, she’s markedly famed for her ability to understand a wide range of accents, so naturally, we thought we’d put that to the test on the streets of London.

Tell me more…

One of Cortana's main designs is to help boost productivity and assist with your day-to-day life running smoothly. And, with the power of Bing, the Microsoft-powered search engine, behind her, you can ask questions conversationally. Check out how she compares to the other virtual assistants in our comparison here.

The more you use your phone and talk to Cortana, the more she gets to know about you – helping assist and organise your diary. She’s also aware of what’s going on around you, and as a result can remind you do stuff based on your location.

So, if you need to pick up some flowers, Cortana will give you a shout when you’re next to a florist. Pretty clever, eh?

Cortana is available on the Microsoft Lumia 435, 535 and 640 and will continue her legacy on future Microsoft handsets.
