LG has announced a new premium smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane. But, confusingly, it won’t be officially unveiled until Mobile World Congress (MWC) next month in Barcelona.
We’re not sure what more LG could tell us about the LG Watch Urbane as the announcement details all its specs and shows a few images of the smartwatch.
The LG Watch Urbane is essentially a more premium version of the LG G Watch R, which was launched back in October. The new smartwatch has the same 1.3 inch circular screen but it now has a metal body, so it looks a lot like a traditional watch. That classic design has been enhanced by LG thinning the bezel, the space around the screen, and making the whole watch slimmer than the G Watch R.
The style of the LG Watch Urbane is topped off by two colour options, gold and silver, and a genuine leather strap that can be easily swapped for any standard 22mm watch strap if you want to change the look.
THE TECHNICAL DETAILS
Like the LG G Watch R, the LG Watch Urbane runs Android Wear, the Google software designed for wearables, so it’ll work with smartphones running Android Jelly Bean, KitKat or Lollipop.
Everything you do on the watch will be powered by a speedy 1.2GHz processor and a 410mAh battery. That battery might be tiny compared to the ones in smartphones, but it should let the watch run for about two days between charges.
The screen helps to keep the battery life up as it’s one of LG’s very efficient Plastic OLED displays. That means the screen can be left on constantly in a dimmed mode without draining too much power – perfect for when you want to quickly glance at the time.
The LG Watch Urbane also has a heart rate sensor to help you stay on top of your fitness and is dust and water resistant so you don’t have to worry about sweat or rain.
We’ll be reporting live from MWC in Barcelona at the start of March, so make sure you head back here for all the updates on the LG Watch Urbane and all the other wearables at the show.
