Introducing the Huawei P40 family

Looking for a next-level camera? Then maybe you need a P40.
Introducing the Huawei P40 family

Just when you thought camera phones had got as good as they could – Huawei release four new phones with promises of big things - P40 Lite, P40 Lite 5G, P40 5G and P40 Pro 5G. At first glance, these look like the now classic Huawei P series set up – amazing multi-camera set ups that give the competition sleepless nights. But what is there about the P40s that set them apart?

Mulitiple cameras

Whether you’re after a landscape masterpiece or you’re just looking for a cheeky selfie, the P40s seem to be packing serious camera power. The headliner of the series (AKA the Huawei P40 Pro 5G) has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 40MP Cine Camera and a 3D Depth Sensing Camera. And that’s just on first glance. Expect plenty of camera modes and party piece tricks.

If you love to shoot video, there’s good news here too. All models support 4K 60fps video recording. Expect smooth, high detail movies. Not blurry home movies.

Processor power and lots of it

Under the hood is Huawei’s Kirin chipset with plenty of RAM to play with. The combination of speedy processor and a good chunk of memory gives you a smooth, seamless performance. You’ll notice this when you’re scrolling through the phone opening and closing apps. No lag. This deadly combination also makes fast-paced games like Fortnite a pleasure to play.

Quality displays in all sizes

Expect crystal clear high def OLED displays in all models. No one wants to peer at a small, fuzzy phone screen when watching movies or playing games on the go. The smallest you’ll get here is the still considerable 6.1 inches on the P40 5G. The Lite expands on this with the P40 Pro 5G topping out at 6.58 inches.

Power for hours, charges in minutes

Looking at Huawei’s talktime numbers give us a good idea of how long battery lasts. Expect 21 hours of talk time on the P40 5G, but if keeping charged is your priority the P40 Lite might be your best bet at 33 hours.

Whichever you choose, Huawei SuperCharge’s USB-C connection will have you back in the game in no time.

Lots of room for what you love

Whether your first download is Skype or Spotify, you’ll want to be sure you have plenty of space to store all of your downloads. The P40s come with a decent chunk of space straight out of the box, but with extra nano memory card slots, you can ramp that up to 256 GB.

Built to last

With cameras this good, you’ll be wanting to take your P40 around with you. But whether it’s on a city break or to the beach, the P40s IP rating for water and dust means that you P40 5G, P40 Lite, P40 Lite 5G or P40 Pro 5G can handle what you throw at it.

And talking of going the distance, pick a P40 with 5G capability and you’ll be enjoying all the speed and seamlessness of the fifth-generation connection.

Head back to Lowdown and we’ll keep you up to date with more Huawei P40 news.
