Squeeze for the brilliant U
HTC has invited the world’s media to an upcoming press event on 16 May, taking place at 14:00 in Taipei, 02:00 in New York, and 07:00 right here in London.
The invite doesn’t give much away, but the tagline ‘Squeeze for the brilliant U’ suggests the upcoming smartphone will feature a brand new way of user interaction. An accompanying video tweeted by @HTC_UK, which you can see below, shows the phone’s frame being squeezed in a short five-second clip.
This could potentially mean a touch-sensitive frame, which we can only assume would let you control the smartphone without having to touch the screen at all. The exact functionality is yet to be seen, but it’s a very exciting move from the Taiwanese company.
Other specs are of course all still under wraps, but the video appears to show a fairly expansive screen and a very slim build.
Topping off the HTC U range
We’ve already seen the release of the HTC U Play and HTC U Ultra, which you can order right now. Follow the highlighted links to be taken straight through to Carphone Warehouse’s website.
The new smartphones both feature HTC’s new virtual assistant, Sense Companion. It’s always learning about you and works to make life that little bit easier. You can ask it to book a table at your favourite restaurant, set a date in the diary, and it’ll remind you to charge up before you leave the house – among lots of other things.
We’ll be bringing you more information about HTC’s next smartphone as and when we hear about it. And if you’ve got anything to add, or a question, drop us a comment below.
