Downloads of the week

Check out our top entertainment downloads this week – including a TV show, eBook, movie and song.
Downloads of the week

Each week we recommend the best things to download from the app stores, to keep you bang up-to-date with the latest and greatest entertainment.

First up, we’re tipping our hat to the new BBC Store…

TV Show

Sherlock – Series 1

Sherlock, Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch

In honour of the BBC launching a brand new paid downloads store, we just had to have a look through the archives and see what classics we could dig up.

Sherlock was the obvious choice, mainly because it’s brilliant but also because it will get you in the mood for the upcoming Victorian themed Christmas special – which you can watch the trailer for here.

Series 1 is still arguably the best of the three series to date – in particular The Great Game episode – and is available for £7.99.

We’re really excited about the BBC Store, which in future will be fully integrated into the popular BBC iPlayer. At launch, there are over 7,000 hours of footage with plans to increase that to over 10,000 in the first year. So even if you don’t fancy watching Sherlock (or have watched it too many times before), there’s plenty more BBC programmes to browse through.

Apps for iOS and Android are currently being developed, so you can download BBC programmes and then watch offline wherever you are on your smartphone or tablet.

Download Sherlock from the BBC Store.

The Road to Little Dribbling: More Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson

Bill Bryson,

The Road to Little Dribbling by American author Bill Bryson is the follow up to 1995’s wildly popular Notes from a Small Island – a book that detailed Bryson’s week-long farewell trip around the UK after having been a resident for 20 years.

That book became the bestselling travel book of all time. 20 years on, Bryson is once again donning his hiking boots for a new journey across Britain to see what has changed. With plenty of funny moments and wry observations, you’ll never quite look at your eccentric yet endearing home country in the same way again.

Download from the Google Play Store and iTunes.

Jurassic World

Jurassic World official

Jurassic World delicately by-steps The Lost World and Jurassic Park III and can be seen more as a follow up to Jurassic Park.

Set 22 years after the events of the first film, the park has become a self-contained dinosaur enclosure attracting tourists from all over the world.

But there’s a problem – the T-Rex has lost its pulling power and new, genetically engineered hybrids are needed to give a boost to the ticket sales. Cue something going wrong and people running round being hunted.

If you loved the original, then you’ll love this, too. Not only has is become the highest grossing film of 2015, its also number 3 on the all-time box office grossing films worldwide.

Stream now from Amazon Instant Video.

Hello by Adele

Adele has stormed the charts this week with her comeback single Hello, even keeping the prince of pop Justin Bieber off the top spot.

Everything is as you would expect – a slow, powerful ballad complete with Adele’s stunning vocal prowess. We’re sure you’ll love it, and if the song is anything to go by then the new album 25 will be a suitable follow up to 21 – the biggest selling album of the 21st century.

Have a listen for yourself over at Spotify.
