App Review: Wikia Dinosaurs

With Jurassic World about to hit UK cinemas, it looks like we’re going to go dino crazy all over again.

Anyone needing their fix of dinosaur action can download some cool games to train, fight and hunt their favourite (or least favourite) reptilian reprobates. But let’s not forget you can do a lot more than destroy dinosaurs on your favourite mobile device.

If you get fed up of the carnage – or if you’ve got young kids that are dinosaur fans – then you might consider downloading something a bit more educational, and a little less killy. We think Wikia: Dinosaurs fits the bill nicely.

About Wikia

Wikia is a huge online community that allows fans of pretty much anything and everything to come together, share their knowledge and talk about the things they love. As you might have guessed from the name, it was created by the founders of Wikipedia (back in 2006). A couple of years ago Wikia started producing some impressive apps. Created by fans, for fans.

Wikia: Dinosaurs

iOS (Free) / Android (Free)

Wikia: Dinosaurs is billed as the super-fan’s guide to dinosaurs. And we’re not going to argue. Because all Wikia apps take advantage of the huge Wikia fan community, they’re always interesting, in-depth and (unlike Wikipedia itself, perhaps) extremely accurate.

Wikia: Dinosaurs is packed with dinotastic information. It’s got literally hundreds of pages of content created by fans. Expect to find in-depth, informative and original articles on different types of dinosaur, and also more detailed pieces on prehistoric life. Discover the various extinction theories (the Ordovician-Silurian one’s our favourite) and view lots of very cool videos.

You can search for content by location, time period and even by different types of popular culture – so yes, you can read about Jurassic World. And even find out what the best dinosaur killing games are… but trust us, there’s so much more to enjoy on this great app. So if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to the Triassic period to find out if the Rabidosaurus was as big a Dicynodont as we’d heard.

Have you ever killed a dinosaur? Sorry, we’re not interested. But if you’ve got something more educational on the dinosaur front that you want to share with us, please feel free.
