Alcatel Idol 4S comes in a VR box

Alcatel OneTouch has unveiled its top new smartphone, the virtual-reality-focused Alcatel Idol 4S.

This high-end Android phone comes in a unique box that can be folded into a virtual reality headset based on the Google Cardboard design. That means you can explore the latest virtual worlds in a 360⁰ immersive experience without having to splash out on Oculus Rift.

One of the reasons the Alcatel Idol 4S will run virtual reality so well is its big, sharp 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED screen. The size gives plenty of room for games and movies, while the Quad HD resolution will show great detail, finally, the AMOLED technology will give vivid colours and deep blacks that’ll make everything look lifelike.

Of course, to get the best virtual reality experience, you need plenty of power to run 360⁰ apps and videos. Thankfully, the Idol 4S is fast – it has an octa core processor with a top speed of 1.8GHz, more than enough to immerse you in a fantasy world.

It’s not all about virtual reality, though. Of course, the big screen and impressive speed will make using the phone for everyday tasks a joy. And it’s got plenty more to keep you going too.

On the back, there’s a powerful 16MP camera with superfast autofocus, a bright lens and dual flash. With headline specs like that, the Idol 4S should help you take some really good photos.

If you’re more into selfies, the front facing camera doesn’t disappoint either. It weighs in at 8MP and has an LED flash, so even when the lights go down, you’ll be able to get Instagram-worthy shots.

Battery life won’t be a problem thanks to a big 3,000mAh cell. Based on other phones, and the fact the Idol 4S is running the latest Android software, we think it should go close to two days between charges.

We’ll get some hands on time with the Alcatel Idol 4S soon so we can tell you what it’s really like to use. In the meantime, tell us if this virtual reality phone would tempt you away from the bigger smartphone brands in the comments below.
