How to get the most out of your Samsung Galaxy A80

In the words of DJ Koh, Samsung’s head of mobile: “The Galaxy A80 offers premium features for digital natives who want to fully engage in the Era of Live.”

The Era of Live. We like that. Think Facebook and Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp… this is truly a phone for keeping in touch with the world, and your friends, in real time.

Check out our tips and tricks for getting the most out of this excellent piece of kit…

What are the Samsung Galaxy A80’s best bits?

At a glance:

  • 3,700 mAH battery that can go all day long
  • 25W Super-Fast Charging technology for when you’re in a pinch
  • Triple-lens rotating camera, including a main 48-megapixel lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 3D depth camera – you’ve never looked so good on a phone!
  • 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with new Infinity Display to see everything in life-like detail
  • In-screen fingerprint scanner so no one can snoop around your phone

The design is distraction-free – no notches, no bezels, just plenty of uninterrupted screen to connect, create and explore.

Let’s talk more about those cameras…

Not content with three top-notch cameras, Samsung have changed the game with a pop-up housing.

A super slick bit of kit, you can film in front as normal, then slide the camera up for selfie view – the camera will automatically rotate to catch what’s happening behind.

The cameras themselves are also pretty stunning. The 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens has an incredible 123-degree field of vision.

This is similar to the range of a human eye – so no more taking dozens of photos and scrolling through to find the best one. Instead capture exactly what you see, exactly the way you see it.

On the 3D depth camera, use Live Focus on photos and video, letting you focus on the main subject by blurring out distracting backgrounds.

For keen videographers, the pro-level action camera is perfect for stepping up your game. The super steady feature uses the Ultra-Wide Camera and predictive software to smooth out live videos, no matter where the adventure takes you.

What about the stuff you can’t see?

As impressive as the pop-up rotating triple-lens camera is, there’s also loads of stuff going on under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy A80. And it’s all geared to delivering an incredible user experience.

Here are some of the best usability features:

Scene Optimiser

An in-built photo enhancer that has 30 modes to identify and improve the type of photo according to the subject. Choose from modes such as food, beaches, city, snow, drinks… and even shoes!

Intelligent Performance Enhancer

This learns your mobile habits then optimises the A80’s processor and memory. Basically, it gives you the best phone performance based on what you like doing best.

Quick Measure app

A pre-loaded app that gives you real-time AR measurements. Scan and measure distances, lengths, depths, and space of 3D objects – super handy if you need to check whether that armchair will fit in your living room.

Multi Window

This isn’t a brand-new feature, but can be really useful – pin windows and tasks directly to your home screen and make your phone as productive at multi-tasking as you are.

What about AI?

Bixby is the jewel in Samsung’s AI crown. Like the Intelligent Performance Enhancer, it learns your daily routines, which apps you use when, and how you use your phone.

Bixby Routines

…is all about lifestyle – it’ll automatically reduce blue light and turn on Night mode to get your eyes ready for bed, and switch on battery-saving mode if you fall asleep without charging your phone. Use My Routine to customise your settings and make your phone work for you.

Bixby Vision

…is “next-level vision intelligence”. It responds to whatever you need by using AR – point your camera at a menu while you’re on holiday, and it’ll translate it for you. Or virtually see how the fridge you want will look in your kitchen.

Bixby Home

…places everything you need within fingertip reach. It’ll learn your habits and put your most-used apps and content in front of you – even pulling info from different apps so it’s all there on a single screen.
