What is a SIM Only contract, and is it right for me?
Instead of buying a contract that comes with a phone, a SIM Only contract gives you a SIM card with minutes, texts and data included, but no phone. Just slot the SIM card into your current device and you’re ready to go.
It’s a cheaper, simpler way to get what you want from a contract. And it means you can upgrade to a brand new smartphone whenever you want.
Why would I get a SIM Only contract?
SIM Only is a good way of cutting down your monthly outgoings, as deals are often cheaper than standard monthly contracts. This is because you’re not paying for the cost of a handset at the same time.
If you’re happy with your current phone, but want to change the benefits of your contract or switch networks, SIM Only is a good option.
Lots of people also use SIM Only as a stopgap. If you know which phone you want, but it’s not yet available to buy, you can bridge the gap with this sort of ‘temporary contract’. The plans can be just 30-days long, and can be renewed after each 30 days.
Are there any other benefits of a SIM Only contract?
Yes, there are...
You can get a SIM Only contract for as little as 30 days, or for as long as 12 months, and renew it whenever you want. It means you don’t need to commit to a 24-month contract if that’s not what you want.
Of course, you can keep your number with the new contract too, and we offer SIM Only with all the major UK networks - including our very own iD network.
How do I buy a SIM Only deal?
To get started, you’ll need a phone. You can use one you’ve already got, or buy a phone without a SIM card and contact from our online range, or head in store. All our SIM-free iPhones are unlocked too, so you can always get the right deal on your favourite network.
Then you just need to decide which SIM Only deal is right for you, and pop the new SIM into your phone. All of our deals are on our SIM Only deals page. If you’re not sure which network is right you, take a look at our network benefits article.
