Our pick of the best quick-charging phones

Today we spend so much time on our phones that it’s easy to drain your battery in record time. Thankfully, many of today’s phones have fast charging technology, letting you get up to a 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes. Not sure which phones have fast charging? We’re rounded up a bunch of the best for you.

But first, what is quick charging?

The latest smartphones are much quicker to charge up than they used to be, however some can charge quicker than others. And it’s thanks to quick charging technology.

Many devices have something called Qualcomm Quick Charge built-in, which can give you up to 50 percent of battery life with just a 30-minute charge. Some phones are even faster than this, and use their own brand of charging know-how.

For example, Huawei uses its own Supercharge technology in its latest P20 Pro smartphone for even quicker power-up. It’s a real lifesaver when you’ve forgotten to charge your phone overnight.

So, which phones have quick charging technology built-in? Here’s just a selection:

Huawei P20 Pro

If you’re looking for a phone with a cracking camera, the Huawei P20 Pro is the best you can lay your hands on right now. It’s triple-lens camera captures the best photos seen on any smartphone.

Unfortunately taking many photos can drain the battery. That’s where Huawei’s Supercharge technology comes in. Just plug in your charger and get close to a 58 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

Don’t just take our word for it. The experts at Tech Radar reviewed the device and found: “It takes 45 minutes to get from 0% to 80%” [of battery power] when discussing the P20 Pro’s fast charging skills.

Nokia 8

The Nokia 8 is a unique phone that uses its front and rear cameras to take dual selfies of you and your subject. Forget about the selfie. Nokia wants us to take a ‘bothie’. Nokia 8 is an exceedingly powerful phone, with a great camera that can also record 4K quality video. You’ll be pleased to know that it too has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for getting half a full charge in just 30-minutes.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium is another to benefit from Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. You’re most likely to drain its battery power while recording super-fun super slow-motion video clips to share on your Instagram page, and watching movies on its jaw dropping 4K HDR screen. If you’ve got a charge point nearby you’ll be able to juice the battery back up in no time.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus

The latest additions to the Samsung Galaxy family are real head turners. They’ve got that beautiful Quad HD display, can take great photos in low light, and are super quick to use. Quite simply, they’re two of the best smartphones you can own right now. The addition of quick charging just makes the S9 and S9 Plus even better.

Apple iPhone X

The gorgeous 5.8-inch Super Retina display on the iPhone X makes it impossible to ignore. The phone is pretty much all screen, which makes for a tremendous viewing experience when it comes to watching movies and playing games. And then there’s Face ID that lets you unlock your phone with just a quick glance, which means there’s no need to remember passwords. Not only does iPhone X have Quick Charge, it supports wireless charging too.
