Best wireless earphones for your smartphone or tablet

Big, over-ear headphones aren’t for everyone. They may produce great quality sound, but if you’re exercising and want something a little more lightweight, earbuds are the way to go. If you’re in the market for your first - or perhaps a replacement - pair of wireless in-ear headphones, we’ve rounded up the best of the bunch.

Apple Airpods

In the lead up to Apple’s 2016 keynote presentation, there was a lot of rumour around whether or not iPhone 7 would feature a 3.5mm headphone jack or not. And when it was revealed that it wouldn’t, there was only one question. How do we listen to music?

Luckily, Apple anticipated that. And introduced AirPods.

Apple’s AirPods are totally wire-free, and when placed next to iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, connect in seconds. They offer five-hours of listening on a single charge, and with the charging case, you can carry 24-hours of power before having to plug in.

Compatibility: iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running iOS 10 or later.

Coming soon.

Bose SoundSport

Bose’s expertise in speakers naturally extends to personal audio in the form of the SoundSport® wireless headphones. With a six-hour battery life you’ll have musical accompaniment throughout all your workouts. And you won’t have to worry about them accidentally falling out halfway through with the specially designed StayHear+ sport tips.

The acoustic ports are built to withstand sweat and wet weather, so no matter how far you push yourself, you’ll be able to enjoy a pitch perfect audio experience no matter what.

Compatibility: Android smartphones with NFC and Apple products running iOS 10 or later.

Samsung Gear IconX

Samsung’s totally cable-free in-ear headphones not only provide high-quality audio, but also track your health during workouts - monitoring speed, distance covered, and heart rate.

If that’s not enough, there’s also 4GB of internal storage, meaning you don’t need to take your phone with you when you’re on the move. Load up to 1,000 songs into the earbuds and keep your smartphone safe at home.

Compatibility: Android smartphones running KitKat 4.4 and later, and with a minimum of 1.5GB RAM.

Beats Powerbeats3

The wireless PowerBeats3 come equipped with Apple’s new W1 chip, letting you sync them with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. They connect effortlessly, too - simply turn them on and hold them next to your iPhone.

And with a 12-hour battery cell built in, you’ll never have to worry about losing connection even on the longest of workouts.

Compatibility: iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running iOS 10 or later.

You’ll be able to order your own soon, courtesy of our sister company, Currys PC World.

Sticking with Dr Dre’s audio firm, BeatsX also offer a premium experience at a slightly lower cost. They too come bundled with Apple’s W1 chip for a swift wireless connection, and offer eight hours of music playback on a single charge.

And on the note of battery power, Fast Fuel supplies two hours worth of playback from just a five-minute charge.

Compatibility: iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running iOS 10 or later.

Available soon from our sister company, Currys PC World.
