Google Pixel 3a hands on

Little a. Big specs…
Google Pixel 3a hands on
The Google Pixel 3a is giving you the best of Pixel at a fraction of the price. This is one mid-range phone that isn’t short of top-notch features.

Remember when the Google Pixel 3 came out last October? It was such a game changer. Night Sight Mode. Google Assistant. Fast charging. We were well and truly wowed.

And now, 7 months later, not only are we reminded of those awesome features with the release of the new Google Pixel 3a, but we’re wowed all over again – this time by the fact that it’s a cracking phone, on a budget. There really is loads going on with the Pixel 3a. Let’s take a look…

Fun and comfortable design

The Google Pixel 3a looks a lot like the Pixel 3. It has nice curved edges and one solo camera lens on the back. The main design difference between the two is that the Pixel 3a has a plastic build instead of glass - giving it a cool, clean look. Plus, the fact that it’s plastic means it’s pretty strong as well.

Quite the display

  • 5.6-inch OLED display
  • Full HD+ (2220 x 1080)

The 5.6-inch OLED display is super vibrant – and it’s a great size for watching your latest Netflix binge on your morning commute to work. The quality of this screen is awesome too. Experience deep blacks and colours that really pop, whether you’re watching home videos from your holiday or big blockbusters.

Flagship camera tech

  • 12.2MP dual-pixel main camera
  • 8MP front camera
  • Auto-focus
  • 4k video recording

It’s no secret that the Google Pixel 3 has an incredible camera – and amazingly the Pixel 3a comes with a lot of the same amazing flagship camera technology.

Night Sight is a big draw when it comes to the Pixel 3a. We’ve tested it out for ourselves and the results are astounding. The feature soaks up every bit of your subject or surrounding’s rich detail and colour – even if you’re in complete darkness. Seriously, you’ll never want to use your flash again.

The motion auto-focus feature is impressive, too. It lets you get everyone in the frame, perfectly in focus. And, if your Facebook profile pic could do with a bit of a refresh, Portrait Mode will help you capture stunning shots with blurred backgrounds. Putting you centre stage (where you belong).

Under the hood

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 670
  • 3,000mAh battery
  • Fast charging
  • 64GB inbuilt storage

If it’s power you’re after, buckle up - the Pixel 3a has tonnes of it. Its Snapdragon 670 processor makes whatever you’re doing run smoothly – whether you’re playing your favourite new app or switching between tasks.

The battery on this means business. Why? Because it charges in a flash and lasts all day long. That means you can spend another 15 minutes on that call or watch that season finale straight away.

Free unlimited space for photos is always handy but there’s also 64GB of storage under the hood for you to save everything you love. Oh, and we can’t forget about Google Assistant. All of your unanswered questions, requests and commands will be responded to at the drop of a hat – right from your Pixel 3a.

If you haven’t already guessed, the Google Pixel 3a is the mid-range smartphone you need in your life.
