So, which eBooks will you be taking on holiday? Will you be diving into a gritty crime novel or going for something a bit more light-hearted? If you’re stuck for choice, check out our top recommendations below.

The Power by Naomi Alderman

What would the world be like if men were afraid of women? That’s the question that Naomi Alderman tackles in her award-winning sci-fi novel, The Power.

The book is written as a historical novel from thousands of years in the future, and is set in a world where women have developed the ability to give electric shocks at will – anything from a slight tingle to ones that kill. We follow four separate female characters as they deal with this ‘power’, while protests and uprisings spread across the globe and a new world order is born.

The Kicking the Bucket List by Cathy Hopkins

The Kicking the Bucket List sees a dying mother devise a plan to heal the rifts between her three daughters.

Dee, Fleur and Rose are three very different sisters who haven’t spoken to one another in years, but are reunited for the reading of their mother’s will. To their horror, they find that their inheritance comes with a catch. In order to get it, they need to spend a year completing a number of their mother’s carefully planned ‘bucket list’ tasks together.

Will mother’s scheme help the sisters reconnect with each other? Or will it push them further apart? Read this hilarious and moving tale of sibling rivalry to find out.

Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance

Looking for a good autobiography to get your teeth into? Then why not go for something a little more thought provoking than the usual B-list celebrity fare?

Hillbilly Elegy is the autobiography of former marine and Yale Law School graduate, J.D Vance. But it’s much more than his personal story. Vance’s tale starts with his ‘dirt poor and in love’ grandparents in post-war America, and follows his troubled and addiction-torn family as they chase the American Dream.

Hillbilly Elegy opens up a part of America usually hidden from view, and it’s a devastating insight into what’s gone wrong in the country over the last two generations. Thanks to Vance’s wit and unflinching honesty, it’s also incredibly funny. Give it a try.

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann

If you’re a true crime fan, it doesn’t get much better than Killers of the Flower Moon. Based on years of research and some shocking new evidence, the book reveals the secrets behind a series of murders that became one of the FBI’s first ever cases.

In 1920s America, oil is discovered beneath the land of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. This newly found wealth makes them among the richest people in the country. But soon, members of the tribe begin to die in mysterious circumstances.

As the death toll rises, the FBI takes up the case. After an initial bungled investigation, its young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turns to a former Texas Ranger for help. Together, they uncover one of the most incredible conspiracies in modern American history.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

It's the year 2044, and the world has taken a turn for the worse. The climate has been destroyed, and famine and disease are rife.

Thank goodness for virtual reality, then. Like most of the population, our hero Wade Watts escapes from the real world by jacking into the OASIS – a virtual utopia where you can be anything you want to be.

The OASIS contains a mystery though. Its dead founder has promised to give his fortune – and control of OASIS – to whoever can solve the clues left scattered throughout his creation. Wade takes up the challenge, and races for the prize along with thousands of other competitors.

Ready Player One is soon to be a major motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg. If you want to find out what all the fuss is about, add it to your reading list.
