If you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to get fit in 2019, your mobile can help. There are loads of fantastic health and fitness apps out there to help you reach your goals – and here are a few of the very best.

Nike Training Club

Available from the App Store or Google Play.

Nike Training Club has over 185 free workouts for you to tackle. There’s a wide range of activities, from yoga to endurance exercises, and you can also call on Nike’s fitness experts for some handy advice and extra motivation.

The app lets you create your own training plans, tailored to your exact fitness levels, and you’ll also get special daily exercises based on your health and fitness routine.

J&J Official 7 Minute Workout

Available from the App Store or Google Play

7-minute workouts are big news in the world of health and fitness. There’s a mind-boggling amount to choose from – but only one original. And this is it.

The world-famous Johnson & Johnson Official 7-Minute Workout app is the only place you’ll find videos of Chris Jordan (the 7-minute Workout creator) demonstrating the exercises and giving you advice on each one. If you’re only going to download one 7-minute workout app onto your phone, it has to be this one.

Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness

Available from the App Store or Google Play.

Sweat is a women’s health and fitness brand, with a wide range of apps to choose from. With Kayla Itsines Fitness, you get expert advice and motivation from Kayla Itsines herself (she’s a fitness author and personal trainer), along with easy-to-follow workouts, fitness challenges, and meal planners with handy shopping lists.

Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness is free to download. Select a monthly subscription, and you’ll start off on a 7-day trial period.

Yoga Studio: Mind & Body

Available from the App Store or Google Play.

If you want a personal yoga studio in your home, but don’t want to go to the expense of, you know, installing a personal yoga studio in your home, then this is the app for you. It lets you create your very own yoga classes, and view video lessons with advice from your onscreen teachers. Download it, choose a plan, and select a class to get started.

Yoga Studio gives you a 7-day free trial. After that, you can choose a monthly or annual subscription.

8fit Workout & Meal Planner

Available from the App Store or Google Play

This brilliant app is your very own personal trainer and diet planner rolled into one. There’s a wide selection of workouts to help you get a sweat on, and the healthy meal planner lets you choose nutritious plans based on your dietary preferences.

8fit is free to download. Subscribe to the Pro version for exclusive workouts and complete meal plans.

Fitbod Weight Lifting Tracker

Available from the App Store.

If you’re thinking of doing a spot of weightlifting, give Fitbod a try. It guides you through all the sets, reps and weights you need to be doing to reach your fitness goals, with step-by-step training to help you get every lift just right.

Fitbod is free to download. If you become an Elite member ($9.99 per month or $59.99 a year – it’s a US brand), you can get unlimited workouts and access more features.

Zombies, Run!

Available from the App Store or Google Play.

Running is a great way of keeping fit. But it’s not the most of exciting thing to do, is it? Unless you’re escaping from a horde of zombies, that is. Welcome to Zombies, Run!

Get your running shoes on, put on your headphones, head out the door and fire up the app. It turns your everyday jog into a story where you’re at the heart of a zombie adventure. Radio news reports and sound effects of incoming zombies will help you go that extra mile and keep running - if you value your life.
