If you’re lucky enough to be outdoors enjoying the sunshine with friends, it’s nice to have a bit of music on the go. Just as long as you don’t go overboard.
To impress your mates and get your sounds heard, you should think about investing in a portable speaker.
To help you out, we've found five portable speakers that pack a real punch. They’ve all got Bluetooth connectivity, so you can easily pair them with your smartphone and fire up your favourite tunes.
UE Boom 2 Bluetooth Speaker
Bring the boom. This speaker is a follow-up to Ultimate Ears’ 2013 Boom speaker, and it’s better in every way. You'll be blown away by its sound quality (and volume) as it blasts out sound in every direction.
The UE Boom 2 is tough as nails too. It’s made from durable, dirt-resistant shockproof materials, and is entirely sealed against water and sand - so it’ll survive a day at the beach or even a weekend at a rain-soaked muddy festival without any problems.
The UE Boom 2 also has a neat little trick. If you pick it up and give it a smack, you can pause, un-pause or skip to the next track. This could be really useful if you've got wet hands and you're not too keen on handling your phone.
The UE Boom 2 measures 7-inches in length and weighs in at 540g. This makes it the biggest speaker on our list, but it’s still perfectly mobile. It’ll keep going for fifteen hours without a recharge, so you’ll be able to enjoy it for a full day in the park. There’s also an app (available on iOS and Android) that lets you control all the usual audio settings, including bass and treble levels.

Samsung Level Box Bluetooth Speaker
The Samsung Level Box Bluetooth speaker fires out 3D-sound through its front and back panels, and it gives you CD-quality stereo with a strong bass. This makes it perfect for your favourite hip hop and dance anthems, and it also makes watching blockbuster movies on your phone much more fun.
The speaker measures about 6-inches in length and weighs just under 400g, so you can easily stick it in your bag and take it anywhere. And its rechargeable battery gives you up to 25 hours of non-stop playing time. In our experience, that’s long enough for most parties.

JBL GO Portable Wireless Speaker
The JBL GO speaker is a great budget option, and at 2 ½-inches it’s small enough to stick in your bag and carry around without even thinking about it. For its miniature size, the sound quality is great. Everything’s loud, crisp and clear, with a decent amount of bass.
You can pair this speaker with your phone’s audio if you want to add a bit of extra volume, and it’ll last at least 5 hours on a single charge. It’s also a great option if you’re looking to give the sound quality of your PC or laptop a boost.
