Meet the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016)

The Samsung Galaxy A3 is back

The Galaxy A-series filled a gap in Samsung’s line up last year, in the absence of a Galaxy S6 mini. Since the S3, Samsung had always created a smaller version of its flagship smartphone, but that legacy ended with the S5.

Now, we’re met with the return of the Galaxy A3 (2016), filling in for the absent Galaxy S7 mini. And this is what it can do…

A quick look

The A3 (2016) is a good-looking, lightweight handset, fronted by a comfortable 4.7-inch HD display (0.2-inches larger than last year’s and much sharper). Design-wise, it’s quite similar to the Galaxy S6 - with the same rounded metallic boarders, but with a much flatter camera bump, like the one on the S7.

Speaking of the camera, it's a very respectable 13MP - another improvement on 2015’s 8MP lens. And Samsung’s Quick Launch feature lets you start the camera up directly from the lock screen by double clicking the home button - really handy if you’re in a rush to capture the action.

Under the hood

On the inside the good times keep coming, with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB RAM. This means that you’ll have enough power to do lots of things at once, and not have to worry about the phone slowing down.

Android Lollipop is still running on the A3, but you’ll be able to update it to the current Android operating system, Marshmallow, in the coming months. This brings with it a refreshed look to the home screen, and if you really want to live and breathe the Android experience, there’s the option to turn on the Google Now launcher in place of Samsung TouchWiz interface.
