Sony Xperia Z3 Compact review

Sony's Xperia Z3 Compact is the manufacturer's attempt to fit the best of its flagship Xperia Z3 into a smaller device. We tried out the Xperia Z3 Compact to see if Sony could pull it off.
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact review

Sony has managed to squeeze everything we love about the new Sony Xperia Z3 into a smaller body, from the brilliant camera to the super-powered processor, giving us the incredibly portable Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.

  • Really easy to use one handed thanks to small size
  • Waterproof and dustproof so you can use it anywhere
  • Brilliant camera gives you better photos
  • Play your PlayStation 4 on your mobile from anywhere
  • Outstanding battery life keeps you going all day

The Xperia Z3 Compact is perfect if you’re always on the go and need high end power.

We really like the look and feel of the Xperia Z3 Compact. The small size is perfect if you’ve only ever got one hand free to send a text. And its metal frame and glass front look sleek and stylish, while the smoothly curved edges make it comfortable to hold. But most impressive is how Sony has managed to get the best bits of the big Z3 into the smaller phone.

Sony has managed to shrink technology that belongs in its digital cameras so that it fits into this mini phone. That means you can easily take really good looking shots that have great colours and clarity. And new software and a new lens let you take beautiful photos even in low light.

With all the same power saving software that Sony put into the Xperia Z3 and a smaller screen, the Z3 Compact’s battery will probably last your two days between charges. That’s a pretty massive battery life for a modern smartphone, especially one with as much power as this.

Sony has brought out new software that’ll let you play your PlayStation 4 games on your smartphone. It works over Wi-Fi, so your Z3 Compact and PS4 have to be online, and means you can play Call of Duty while waiting for a bus.

The 720p HD screen could be a little better. If the screen was any bigger, we’d say it definitely needs to be made 1080p Full HD or nothing would look sharp enough. As it is, Sony’s great colour reproduction will make up for the slight lack of sharpness.

Whether you want to stay entertained while travelling or need to keep up with work while out of the office, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is a brilliantly portable and powerful phone. Its smaller size stops it from being the ultimate entertainment phone, but it does make it a much more mobile phone.
