Porsche design P'9982 from BlackBerry review

The Porsche Design P’9982 from BlackBerry oozes luxury. Its body is crafted from stainless steel and the back cover is hand wrapped in Italian leather. You’ve got to admire the attention to quality here.

DESIGN

BlackBerry brought in Porsche Design to make sure this phone had the premium looks to go with its new BlackBerry 10 software. That’s resulted in a modern, angular look that we like. And it’s been made even better by using the best materials to create the phone. It really does look striking.

CAMERA

There’s a handy 8MP camera on the back of the P’9982 that takes very good photos. But we really liked using the 2MP front facing camera to make HD video calls with BBM Video. We could even share what’s on the screen of our phone, like work documents or photos, with the person we were calling.

ENTERTAINMENT

We found the 4.2” screen on the P’9982 to be really sharp, which was great for games. And the BlackBerry World app store recommends apps for you based on what you and your friends have downloaded in the past. That makes it really easy to find entertaining new stuff.

PRODUCTIVITY

The BlackBerry 10 won us over with its focus on productivity. It’s super-secure, as you’d expect from BlackBerry, and it’s fantastic for emails and messaging. We love the BlackBerry Hub feature. One swipe from anywhere in the phone lets you see all your new messages and emails so it’s easy to stay on top of things.

BATTERY

The battery in the Porsche Design P’9982 from BlackBerry is removable, meaning you can carry a spare with you and switch them over if you run low on power. But most people shouldn’t need to as the 1,800mAh battery got us through a full working day.

UNIQUE FEATURES

The P’9982 comes with a few unique tweaks that give a more exclusive experience. To start, you get an exclusive BlackBerry PIN that makes you instantly recognisable as a Porsche Design owner. Then there’s the unique P’9982 theme to the software. It looks great and ties in well with the look of the phone’s body. Finally, BlackBerry has given the P’9982 a unique ringtone to distinguish the phone from other BlackBerrys.
