Samsung Galaxy S4 review

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the best selling phones of all time because it’s jam packed with useful features. It’s a good size, has a great battery life, and now the S5’s out, it’s even better value too.

Samsung wanted to make the S4 a nice, easy to use size and keep it light. It succeeded, and the S4 is suited to pretty much anyone. The plastic body has a nice glossy finish, and it’s a phone that definitely looks the part.

It probably has one of the best 13MP cameras on a smartphone, always giving great photos with a nice level of detail. There are also lots of extra features to spice up your photos and videos. Dual camera mode is fun, letting you use the front and rear cameras at the same time. We also loved Buddy Photo Share because it automatically tags your friends in photos using facial recognition.

The powerful S4 is a great phone for keeping you entertained. The large screen is sharp and bright, ideal for videos, and any app and game you fancy will run smoothly. The Group Play feature is also awesome, letting you use multiple S4’s as speakers, creating a fun surround sound effect.

Polaris Office 5 is a great app that comes with the Samsung Galaxy S4. It lets you open and edit all your Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on the move. It also lets you turn over the phone to mute it, which has been useful in a few meetings when we’d forgotten to turn the ringer off!

The S4’s battery is really good, lasting around a day and a half. It’s possible to replace the battery too, so you can keep a spare one and swap them for double the time away from a charger.

There are lots of handy features in the S4, and one we like a lot is Air Gesture. Swipe your hand over the screen to skip tracks, scroll down pages and switch tabs in the internet browser. It feels really futuristic.

We also liked Smart Pause, which works with the video player. When you look away, the video you’re watching pauses so you don’t miss anything. Handy, clever, and a little bit spooky for the first few times we used it!
