Best to-do list apps

What’s on your to-do list today? Here are some apps to help you get organised and keep your to-do list in check.
Best to-do list apps

What’s on your to-do list today? If you’re looking at a notepad full of handwritten tasks for the answer, that’s fine – lots of us still happily work like that.

But there are lots of great apps that can take your productivity to the next level, both at work and at home. The next thing on The Lowdown’s to-do list just happens to be: “Tell our readers what the best to-do list apps are”. So here goes:

Android (FREE) / iOS (FREE)

Todoist has been around for a while. It’s one of the world’s most popular to-do list apps, and it’s easy to see why – it’s packed with useful features that will let you easily manage your daily jobs and recurring tasks. You can get others involved too, with its great collaboration tool that lets you invite anyone to work with you on projects.

Todoist integrates with Dropbox and Google Drive, automatically syncs on all your devices and to the cloud, so you’ll never lose track of what needs to get done.

And there’s a great ‘karma’ system that rewards you with points for completing tasks on time. But beware – if you’re more than two days overdue with a task, you’ll start losing points. If you feel this kind of motivation is what you need, Todoist could be the one for you.

Android (FREE) / iOS (FREE)

Evernote started out as a great multi-purpose note taking apps, but it’s now much more than that. Evernote regularly adds smart new features designed to organise your life better, and it can now match the best productivity tools out there.

Evernote is great for making notes, creating to-do lists and capturing ideas (such as web articles, photos, handwritten notes). But you can also use it for more work related tasks like preparing meetings, managing bills and invoices, and arranging business travel trips.

Android (FREE) / iOS (FREE)

Wunderlist has millions of fans around the world who use it to capture their ideas and give their personal and professional lives a bit more structure. With Wunderlist, you can create unlimited lists and share them easily with work colleagues, family and friends. You can attach PDFs, images and presentations, and then set reminders to make sure you don’t miss important deadlines.

Wunderlist automatically syncs with other devices, so you’ll be able to keep on top of your tasks anywhere, at any time. And it works with Android Wear, so you can create lists and make notes by just using your voice if you have a new smartwatch.

Android (FREE) / iOS (FREE)

HabitRPG is certainly one of the more unusual task-based apps around, but we had lots of fun with it.

It gamifies your life. To be exact, it makes your life more like a role-playing game. So you can turn your tasks into monsters, treat your daily goals as quests, and even earn money to buy weapons (erm, virtual money and weapons, of course). If this sounds like your idea of the good life, check it out.

We think Todoist, Evernote and Wunderlist are three of the best to-do list apps out there (and HabitRPG is definitely one of the quirkiest). But if you’re already using one that you swear by, why not share your thoughts below?
