Sony Xperia Z2 tablet review

Sony designed the Sony Xperia Z2 Tabletto be as slim as possible, but it’s still waterproof. That’s some impressive engineering, but its real party piece is its TV-quality screen.

The Z2 Tablet is the slimmest waterproof tablet outside of Japan. So it looks great, is easy to slip into a bag and we found it light enough to use all day while on the move. And that waterproofing meant we could use it anywhere, even at the beach.

Tablets aren’t really designed to be used as cameras. But the 8MP camera on the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is really good. We got detailed photos that had really natural colours. Although we looked a bit strange holding up a 10.1” tablet to take a photo.

This is where the Xperia Z2 Tablet shines. We loved watching movies on the big HD screen. It’s got all of Sony’s TV technology, which made things look sharper, brighter and more colourful. And its speakers gave us fantastic sound quality.

The Z2 Tablet is designed for entertainment, but we still found it handy for work too. It comes with OfficeSuite 7 installed, so we were able to create documents compatible with Microsoft Office. And the keyboard’s accurate and has good word predictions, so typing wasn’t a problem.

We were surprised by the battery life. The battery itself is smaller than most big tablets, but it managed to last as long as its main rivals from Apple and Samsung. We were easily able to get a day’s heavy use out of it.

As we’ve already said, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is waterproof. That means you can use it if it’s raining or if you’re at the beach because it can be submerged in up to a metre and a half of water for up to an hour. It’s a handy feature that we think should be in a lot more tablets.
