Samsung Galaxy S6 vs Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was Samsung’s first smartphone to sell in truly astonishing numbers. But now, three years on, a lot has changed and we have the brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 – the best phone the company has ever made. So let’s have a look at how the new Galaxy stacks up against its aging ancestor.

The first thing you should know is that there are two different kinds of S6. The Galaxy S6, which looks quite familiar, and the Galaxy S6 edge, which has a screen that wraps around the sides. The sloping sides aren’t just a design point, however. They can be used to quickly check who’s calling or texting, or as an easy shortcut to access your favourite contacts.

The plastic body of the Galaxy S3 has also been replaced with a much more modern, premium and good-looking metal and glass one. It’s super slim and seamless, so it feels great.

When it comes to size, it’s fairly noticeable that Samsung has always been ahead of the curve. The Galaxy S3, released in 2012, has a 4.8-inch screen, which we remember thinking was unbelievably huge at the time. But now the screen has grown even more to 5.1-inches. And the resolution is much better. At Quad HD, the screen on the Galaxy S6 shows four times more detail than the HD screen of the Galaxy S3.

The goodies don’t end there – the Galaxy S6 comes with a fast charger in the box. It lets you get four hours’ use from just a 10 minute charge. The Galaxy S3 takes ages to charge by comparison.

There has also been some great headway made with the camera, which is now at 16 megapixels, twice as sharp as the Galaxy S3’s camera. The new one has optical image stabilisation and a bigger aperture, which makes your photos look bright and colourful. There’s also a 5 megapixel camera on the front for sharp selfies. And if that’s not enough, both cameras can be launched in record time – just 0.7 seconds.

It’s obvious that Samsung has listened to what the people want, and as a result the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are massive improvements on the old Galaxy S3. The great new design is fresh and interesting, and both phones offer a simpler mobile experience.
