Best phones of MWC 2018

If you love smartphones, there’s no better place to be than at the annual Mobile World Congress event held in Barcelona. This year’s show was filled with exciting phone launches, including the all-new Samsung Galaxy S9, and some beautiful handsets from Nokia. That’s not all. Read on for what we think are the best phones to come out of MWC 2018.

Samsung Galaxy S9

Where else to start, but with the amazing new Samsung Galaxy S9? The first thing you’ll notice is the gorgeous Infinity Display. The screen has even less of a border surrounding it than last year’s S8 model, which means you get to enjoy more of the picture. The Super AMOLED display is one of the best around, if not the best ever seen on a smartphone.

The S9 is also the first ever smartphone to have a dual aperture. It’ll help you take stunning photos in low light, or indoors. The super slo-mo camera will also shoot at 960 frames per second. That’s extra-extra slow motion to me and you.

Like the sound of Apple’s Animoji? Well, there’s no need to feel left out. Samsung has its own version. It’s called AR Emoji. Instead of animated cartoon emoji, you can create a cartoon caricature of yourself that you can bring to life. The uncanny virtual doppelgangers are eerily good fun.

Samsung Galaxy S9+

The Galaxy S9+ is the S9’s bigger brother. It has all the features of the S9. The major difference is that it has a 6.2” Quad HD screen, so you get even more of an amazing picture.

The S9+ also has a dual lens camera, and a telephoto lens. With them you can create excellent portrait shots, and professional-looking blurred background ‘bokeh’ shots. Dual Optical Image Stabilisation keeps the camera steady, even if you’ve got shaky hands.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

Nokia continued its comeback with a range of new handsets. Chief among them is the Nokia 8 Sirocco – a gorgeous phone with toughness to match its suave looks. A stainless-steel band around the phone makes it almost impossible to bend. But why? Well, Nokia discovered that most of us like to place our phones in our back pocket, which can leave our devices prone to bending. It’s basically as tough as Chuck Norris on steroids, after he’s had his Weetabix.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a 5.5” HD OLED screen. It’s water resistant, and can be charged wirelessly. Any video you record will sound amazing thanks to three microphones that can record sound with almost no distortion.

The new Pro Camera mode lets you take control of every aspect of your photos by adjusting white balance, ISO, shutter speed, and exposure. You can see the results in real time, so you’ll always capture the perfect shot.

Nokia 8810 4G

Nokia also launched a modern iteration of the classic Nokia 8810. It’s another attempt by Nokia to revive another of its iconic handsets, following last year’s resurrection of the Nokia 3310. The new 8810 has 4G and WiFi internet connectivity. You can receive email on it, too. The phone comes in a bright yellow tone, but don’t worry, it’s available in black as well.

Sony Xperia XZ2

Sony announced its latest Xperia phone. Say hello to the Sony Xperia XZ2. It’s a mighty upgrade on the previous XZ1, with a 5.7” Full HD+ HDR screen. It’s Sony’s first to sport an 18:9 display for extended screen space. The design is slimmer, and narrower than before, so it’ll take up less space in your pocket. You can even record in 4K, and in super slo-mo at 960 frames per second in Full HD – which is perfect for Instagram-worthy montages.

And gamers, listen up. Dynamic Vibration System makes the phone vibrate during play. The idea is to bring you closer to your mobile games. The XZ2 is also superfast, and has plenty of storage. Underneath the hood you’ll find the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of expandable storage. Take photos with a 19MP Motion Eye rear camera, and a 5MP camera front camera that’s perfect for selfies.
