Meet the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ coming soon to Carphone Warehouse

If you’re due an upgrade, or want to treat yourself to the latest smartphone, then Samsung has some exciting news. They’ve just announced the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+.

If you’ve seen the Galaxy S8 and S8+, then they look fairly similar. The biggest upgrades have been under the hood. And if you’re a keen smartphone photographer, you’re really going to love their new camera.

Meet the Samsung Galaxy S9

Looks wise, then the Samsung Galaxy S9 isn’t significantly different to 2017’s S8. The infinity display is slightly less curved at the sides, similar to the Note 8’s screen. This means slightly more screen size, but it still measures in at 5.8 inches corner to corner, and 6.2 inches on the S9. The screen is still beautiful Quad HD, and it was such a brilliant feature of the S8, it makes you wonder how they could possibly improve it.

The big difference is on the back. The fingerprint scanner is larger, and has now moved below the camera, which will help the camera lens get less smeary, as you won’t put your finger on it by accident.

On the S9+, there’s an extra camera lens, similar to the Note 8. This lends itself to some brilliant new camera features, but more on that later.

The phone is still one of the nicest phones to hold. It just feels so smooth and premium. It really is a joy to have in your hand.

On launch, the Samsung S9 and S9+ will be available in Black and the new Orchid colour. Further colours will come to the UK throughout the year.

Smart snapper

Samsung have called the S9 their smartest and most immersive phones yet. And that’s largely due to the exciting new camera technology these phones have onboard. It’s the first ever phone to have a dual aperture. This is going to be most helpful at night time to take low light shots. The dual aperture adjusts, just like your eyes. So, whether you’re in moonlight, a club or out in the sunshine, your phone will capture the perfect photo.

Don’t just go slow. Go super slow.

The thing about life is sometimes it just happens so fast, you blink and you miss it. But the S9 has something brand new up its sleeve to slow things down. Super slow to be precise. Their new super slo-mo camera shoots at 960 frames per second, which is significantly slower than the slo-mo feature on the S8. So, whether you’re filming your child score their first goal, or a beautiful sunset, you can slow things down and enjoy every second. You can GIF your slo-mo videos, plus you can even save your favourite video as your home screen.

Seeing double

Invest in the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and you’ll get a dual lens camera - one a wide angle lens, and the other a telephoto lens. The extra camera is perfect for creating portrait shots with a blurred background, known as a Bokeh effect. It adds an extra element of professionalism to every shot. The S9+ cameras also have Dual Optical Image Stabilisation, which use clever little springs to stop shaky hands from ruining your pics.

Surround yourself with sound

If you’re a fan of gaming or watching Netflix on your phone, then the S9 has it's loudest ever AKG tuned stereo speakers with Dolby atmos surround sound built in. You won’t believe how such incredible surround sound can come from such a small package. Dolby atmos takes surround sound to the next level, projecting sound all around you to really add impact to whatever you’re watching or playing.

The eyes have it

Samsung has had iris recognition since the Note 7, and last year introduced facial recognition to the S8 to another even more secure way to open your phone. This year, they’ve gone one step further by combining the two features into one, so now the phone will use both your iris and your facial features to add an extra layer of security.

Emoji yourself

Augmented reality and face scanning can do some amazing things. Just look at the filters available on Snapchat or Facebook. The Samsung Galaxy S9 goes one step further, using the front and back cameras to map your features letting you turn yourself into an emoji. It maps your facial expressions, and you can have up to 18 emojis. And you can share it with anyone, regardless of what phone they own, on all sorts of apps like WhatsApp, Messenger and more.

So, what do you think? Do you want to make the Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ yours? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

We have plenty of great ways to own these brilliant new phones, from pay monthly contracts, to buying the phone outright SIM free.

You can also get either phone on a flexible leasing deal. This is where you rent it - rather than own it - and can then upgrade to the latest phone every year. Best of all, our flexible leasing smartphones aren’t locked to just one network.

Interested? Then go ahead and order the Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ from Carphone Warehouse.
