Sony Xperia XA2 announced at CES 2018

A fresh build with borderless design

Sony’s latest mid-range handset, the Xperia XA2, has been revealed at Las Vegas’ Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The new device looks great with a refreshed, rounded design, and it brings a lot of the functions found on the flagship Xperia XZ1 with it.

Build and display

For the first time in recent years, Sony has chosen to remove the fingerprint scanner from the side-mounted home button. It’s now on the back, to let you unlock with your index finger where it naturally rests while holding the phone in one hand.

The whole device features a more rounded design. The curved edges bring the front and back together flawlessly, and the 5.2-inch Full HD display, reaching right to the edges, will mean an even more immersive video-watch experience. It’s also built with Corning Gorilla Glass, so you’ll not have to worry about the odd bump or scrape.

Camera

On the back of the XA2, there’s a powerful 23MP camera, featuring Sony’s Exmor RS™ image sensor, and an impressive ISO for better photography in low-light environments. You can record video in glorious 4K resolution, and with 120 frame-per-second slow-mo capture, you can easily add an element of drama to all your home movies.

On the front, there’s an 8MP camera for all your selfie needs, and it’s super wide-angle at 120-degrees. So, you can bin the selfie stick and still get everyone in the frame.

Under the hood

On the inside of the XZ2, you’ll find a high-capacity 3,300mAh battery powering the handset, backed up by Sony’s intelligent Smart Stamina mode. This feature learns how you use the smartphone over time, and will start to tailor how power is dolled out, meaning you'll be able to go for longer between charges.

And when it does come to plugging in, you won’t be waiting around for long. With quick-charging tech built in, you’ll be able to enjoy hours of power from just 30 minutes in the wall.

The Sony Xperia XA2 will be available exclusively in blue from Carphone Warehouse.
