LG officially reveals V30 at IFA 2017

“The most perfect smartphone we’ve ever created” - Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics

Although the company itself had already made a lot of the V30 information public, the official announcement was no less exciting. This is everything you need to know about the official launch event, held at Berlin’s IFA.

Crystal clear lens

The first thing LG touched on was the ‘crystal clear’ lens, as LG has named it. The dual lens 16MP and 13MP camera has a super-wide f/1.6 aperture, which is larger than all of its current competitors on the smartphone market. A wide aperture lets you suck more light into the lens, for better photos with brighter colours.

To make sure LG was able to really drive its point home - David Franco, director of photography on Game of Thrones, was introduced to talk everyone through what it really meant to use the V30.

One of his favourite settings was the pre-set cine-effects, which is a “piece of cake” to capture the perfect moment in video. The point-zoom function is also a highlight, which lets you smoothly pan into your shot, without pinching the screen. And you don’t just have to zoom on the center – just tap which area you want to enlarge, and you’ll be able to slowly pan in.

On the front of the phone there’s a secondary camera, which is wide-angle at 120-degrees. So, you can leave the selfie stick at home, and happily fit the whole gang in the frame with 13MP photos.

Super-sharp OLED display

Fronting the new smartphone is a 6-inch Quad HD+ display with OLED FullVision and HDR 10 technology. All this mean you’ll effectively be able to enjoy a much more immersive viewing experience, with deeper contrast and more life-like colours. It has a minimal bezel surrounding it, and just like the LG G6, it boasts the super tall 18:9 ratio screen shape.

It’s also protected by Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and back, to make sure it’s you won’t have any problems when faced with life’s accidental bumps and scrapes.

VR-ready smartphone

The V30 puts LG on the map with mobile VR, ready to go with Google’s Daydream View straight out the box.

All you need to do is download the app from the Google Play Store, and then put the phone inside the headset. The OLED display has a high response speed, which means you’ll get a smooth refresh rate for a more realistic experience, only made better by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.

And while we’re on Google, the V30 has the Mountain View company’s virtual assistant baked in as standard. So if you ever want to find out more about, well… anything, just say “OK, Google”.
