Meet the Samsung Galaxy J3 and J5 (2017)

Introducing Samsung's 2017 J-series smartphones

Samsung's 2017 version of the affordable Galaxy J3 and J5 smartphones are in. These mid-range handsets have built a solid reputation for punching above their weight, while offering a near-premium experience, so let’s see what’s new this time around...

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017)

The stylish full-metal Galaxy J5 (2017) boasts a 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen – that’s an impressive display for a mid-range phone, and Samsung describes it as offering a “fantastic viewing experience.”

The 13MP rear-camera should perform well in low light conditions with its f/1.7 aperture, and the front-facing camera also weighs in at 13MP. We’re looking forward to seeing its selfie-taking capabilities.

Under the hood, there’s now a speedy octa-core 1.6GHz processor chipset paired with 2GB RAM. That’s a serious upgrade over the 2016 J5’s quad-core 1.2GHz processor, so we’re expecting this 2017 version to offer a speedier and smoother all-round performance.

The J5 (2017) also comes with a sizeable 3,000mAh battery and 16GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB with a memory card.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

Just like the J5, you can expect a stellar smartphone experience from the J3 at an affordable price. It features a 5-inch HD display, 13MP camera and 16GB of internal storage. The minimalist design is one of the phone's best features, however, making it really stand out in its price range category. Unlike the J5, it's plastic - not metal - but it doesn't take anything away from the overall aesthetic.

On the inside there's a 2,400mAh battery, which should comfortably keep you going all day, and with Samsung's Power-saving Mode, you can transform your last 15% of charge into hours of use. There's also space for a microSD card of up to 256GB, if you're looking for extra storage on top of the standard 16GB.

Powerful smartphones at an affordable price point…

Here’s what Conor Pierce, vice president, IT and mobile division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, had to say about Samsung's 2017 J-series: “We’re confident that the new Galaxy J series' enhanced design, superb camera technology and high-performance features will continue to appeal to existing and new customers seeking a beautifully designed, powerful smartphone from a premium brand, all at an affordable price point.”

If you'd like to make the Samsung Galaxy J3 or the J5 2017 your very next smartphone, you can buy them from Carphone Warehouse right now.
