The pub chain’s app set to revolutionise bar service
The J.D. Wetherspoon chain has revealed a new app, which could change the way the traditional pub operates forever. The Order & Pay app, available on iOS and Android, lets you order food and drink to your table - meaning no more queuing, ever.
The app itself is fairly easy to use. Once downloaded, you tell it which pub you’re in (turn location settings on to make this easier), and then choose what you want to order from the menus.
Everything’s the same price as it would be if you were to walk up to the bar, and the app is completely free.
Is this the future?
“Since its introduction, the Wetherspoon Order & Pay app has proven a big hit with customers and is now available in all of our pubs across the UK,” the chain writes on its website.
“No more queuing at the bar – just use the Order & Pay app, sit back and relax, and the order is delivered directly to you at your table … the app has a scrolling menu feature, making it easy to browse the Wetherspoon menu (including club deals) and place your order. It also has a reorder function, to repeat your favourite purchases, for quickness and ease.”
The app was originally tested in a handful of branches, but has now been rolled out nationwide, letting customers avoid frustrating queues, and instead enjoy a table-waited service.
But it does beg the question as to whether the app will take something away from the bar-customer interaction that’s been established in the industry for so long. Will the novelty take off and make way for a totally autonomous drinking and dining experience, or is it purely the way round a crowded pub?
