Huawei P10 hands on

The original dual lens returns #OO

The Huawei P9 was the first of the 2016 smartphones to feature a dual lens camera. It kick-started a theme that’s becoming more and more popular now, with the LG and Apple also jumping on the bandwagon.

But that’s all old news. Now, we’ve got the Huawei P10 and it’s got an even better camera than its predecessor. Let’s check it out…

Design and display

The P10 appears very similar in size and build to the P9, but on closer inspection you can see what difference a year makes. On the front of the smartphone there’s a 5.1-inch Full HD display with very little bezel around the sides. And there’s a fingerprint sensor-home button combo just below the screen, which just like some other manufacturers at the moment, can’t actually be pressed. You simply have to tap on in to activate the home button.

It does, however, mean that the back of the phone is totally smooth now (the P9’s fingerprint sensor was rear-mounted), with just the dual camera setup and dual-LED flash at the very top.

The dual lens camera

The camera itself is of course this smartphone’s biggest feature. It’s co-engineered by German photography legends, Leica, and has the power to create some really professional effects.

The two lenses form just one camera, but individually they’re different strengths at 12MP and 20MP. You’re able to shoot video at 4K resolution, and create an artificial ‘bokeh’ effect, which you can see in action in our hands on video above.

Under the hood

On the inside of the P10, there’s a load going on. You can look forward to 64GB of internal storage – which can be expanded by up to 256GB with a microSD card – and a whopping 4GB RAM for effortless multitasking.

There’s also a Kirin 960 octa-core processor, and 3,200mAh battery - powered by USB Type-C.
