BlackBerry Mercury: What do we know?

BlackBerry is back with a physical keyboard

BlackBerry is going through a transitional period at the moment, after being acquired by Chinese firm, TCL (the company also behind Alcatel). But that’s not to say it’s putting the breaks on its smartphones.

At CES 2017, we got our first glimpse of the company’s new handset, BlackBerry Mercury. In true BB style, it comes with a physical keyboard, and just like its predecessor, PRIV®, it runs on the Android operating system.

Hey, good looking

In terms of design, it looks really smart. Unlike PRIV, the keyboard doesn’t slide out from the phone, but is rather a permanent feature underneath the display. There also looks to be two high-powered lenses (from the size of them) – one on the front, and another on the back.

Check out this official teaser video:

Specific specs are thin on the ground at the moment, but all eyes are on Mobile World Congress for more details, where we’ll hopefully see the full launch of the news flagship smartphone.

We’ll be on the ground at MWC to bring you all the latest new, so make sure you keep it with The Lowdown as of 26 February for all the latest mobile news, live from Barcelona.
