Making Mondays more bearable
MasterCard and Android Pay have teamed up to make Mondays in the UK that little bit better. On the remaining three Mondays in October, Londoners will be able to enjoy free TfL travel, and coffee (and other hot drinks), from Caffè Nero.
How it works
To get on board with Android Pay’s Free Coffee Mondays, this is what you need to do:
1. Head to the Google Play Store and download the Android Pay app – available on all smartphones running Android 4.4 KitKat and later.
2. Set up your MasterCard credit or debit card with Android Pay. You’ll need to put your details into the app, and possibly call your bank for authorisation. The app will give you the number to call.
3. Look out for the contactless or Android Pay symbols. They’re generally displayed near the payment terminals, and for those travelling in London, you just need to tap in and out as you usually would. The promotion covers travel costs up to £30.50 on busses, tubes, trams, the DLR, TfL Rail, Overground, and most National Rail services operating in the city.
Make sure your phone is unlocked before you tap, and payments will automatically be refunded directly to your account.
A little bit about Android Pay
Google launched Android Pay in the UK this summer, and it lets you pay for stuff using your phone. It’s quick, convenient, and safe. The payment system provides your cards with unique virtual account numbers, in place of your actual name and card number. It also stores your personal information on encrypted servers.
If you were to lose your phone, however, and you want that extra peace of mind, check out Android Device Manager, which lets you lock, and even wipe your smartphone, remotely.
