The new Huawei Nova and Nova+
The latest from Huawei at IFA 2016
Five hours is exactly how long the new Huawei Nova’s battery will last playing Pokémon GO. How do I know this? Huawei announced the stat at their device announcement today in Berlin. The world really has gone Pokémon GO crazy.
That aside, Huawei’s brand new mid range devices, the Nova and the Nova+ offer some very impressive new features that will impress even non lovers of the augmented reality game.
With these devices, Huawei have moved away from the straight lines and more boxy feeling of their flagship devices, and given the Nova some curves. It feels very refined, with a beautifully crafted metal body. It’s also only 7mm thin, making it a delightful phone to hold, and use, with just one hand.
The screen on the Nova is a big 5in, or a massive 5.5in on the Nova+. It’s only full HD, but there are some unique features baked in, including the popular blue light display you’ll find on more flagship devices. It’s perfect if you like to read in bed, because blue light lets your mind switch off better than a bright normal display.
The Nova also boasts USB-C connectivity. It’s a new type of charger that’s reversible, so you don’t need to fiddle around so much plugging it in. Plus the Nova also has a fingerprint scanner on the back, which has some other useful features other than just unlocking your phone, letting you answer calls, pull down the notifications menu and more.
In terms of power, it doesn’t do badly. There’s 3GB of RAM, which will keep you multitasking with ease. And the massive 3020 mAh battery, bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S7 which has a bigger screen, means this phone will truly keep going all day. And probably another day too.
Camera wise, there’s nothing particularly revolutionary to report, but it has a 12MP rear camera, and an 8MP selfie camera on the front with an excellent f/2.0 aperture. That will help you take beautiful selfies, even in low light.
Selfie lovers are definitely a big market for this device, as Huawei have included some interesting new features to keep them happy. Forgotten to wear make up? No problem. The Huawei Nova has 8 different make up settings to help you look your best.
