IF, formerly known as IFTTT (short for “if this, then that) is one of our favourite apps.
We love using it to create recipes that link apps and devices that don’t normally work together. You can read our review of it here:
App review: IF (if this, then that)
The big news is that IF is rolling itself out, and letting its recipes be inserted right into third party apps. This means that rather than creating recipes yourself, you’ll be able to use ones that have already been inserted into compatible apps. For example, Garageio’s smart garage opener app now has a few inbuilt IF recipes. that let you do things like open the garage door as you arrive home, with just a tap of the app.
That’s not a bad example, but we got our thinking caps on here in The Lowdown office, and have managed to come up with some even better inbuilt recipe suggestions. These are so useful it’s hard to believe they don’t exist already. Right?
1. If you end up getting lost playing Pokémon GO, then call it quits and order an Uber home. Don’t end up being one of these guys.
3. If you buy something from eBay or Amazon after midnight, then cancel the purchase immediately. It’s never a good idea.
4. If you agree to meet a friend early on a Saturday or Sunday morning, then have a “sorry, I slept in” message ready to send them.
5. If you want a proper good upgrade deal, then just ask Carphone Warehouse. Here’s how Keith does it.
If you manage to come up with your own IF app suggestions that are even half as good as this lot, we’d love to hear them. Drop us a comment below.
