When will I get Android Nougat on my phone?

Find out when Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat update will be coming to your phone…
When will I get Android Nougat on my phone?

The official release timescale for Android Nougat, Google’s latest operating system update, is ‘late summer’. This was announced at Google’s annual I/O conference in California back in May.

The exact release date remains closely guarded by Google. But based on previous updates, this is what we expect to happen.

Traditionally, Nexus is always first in line for new Android updates. So if you own a recent Nexus phone, you should be able to enjoy Android Nougat as soon as it’s released.

Samsung hasn’t announced an Android Nougat update schedule for its devices, but its flagship phones are always given preferential treatment.

The South Korean technology giant took five months to roll out Android Marshmallow to its first device last year. A similar timescale this time round would see Android Nougat on Samsung phones and tablets early in 2017.

LG is keeping quiet about its plans for Android Nougat, but it’s usually pretty quick at rolling out its software updates - last year its flagship phones got Android Marshmallow just a couple of months after Nexus. With this in mind, owners of the LG G5 and LG G4 could see Android Nougat on their phones before the end of the year.

HTC recently tweeted to confirm that Android Nougat will be coming to the HTC 10, HTC One A9 and the HTC One M9. Unfortunately, it didn't go as far as sharing a timescale.

Huawei’s got good form when it comes to Google software updates - it was actually one of the first manufacturers to release an Android Marshmallow phone (the Mate 8, in case you were wondering). If you’re the lucky owner of a Huawei flagship like the P9, you could have Android Nougat before 2016 comes to a close.

Motorola hasn’t produced a full list of its phones that will be receivingAndroid Nougat, although it has confirmed that the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus will be getting the update “as soon as possible”.

Other phone manufacturers

Most manufacturers will try and add the latest software updates onto devices that are less than two years old. But if you haven’t got a recent phone or tablet this could take a long time - years, rather than months, in some cases.

If you really can’t wait for Android Nougat, then it could be time to upgrade your phone to one of the latest flagships. Check if you’re eligible for an upgrade at Carphone Warehouse today.
