All eyes trained on Samsung for 2 August announcement
Samsung is set to announce its next big smartphone on 2 August, and we can’t wait to find out what it’ll be able to do.
Following the Samsung Galaxy Note 4’s success back in 2014, we can’t wait to find out what will be coming next. The Note 4 arrived with a stunning 5.7-inch Quad HD display, powerful 16MP camera, and of course, Samsung’s iconic S Pen stylus. But it’ll soon be time for something new…
The internet is buzzing with speculation as to what the next big Samsung Galaxy smartphone will be like. So to keep you up to date, we’ve rounded up the biggest rumours from the top tech sites…
There seems to be a bit of uncertainty about what the next big Samsung Galaxy smartphone will be called - Pocket-lint investigates: “There have been a couple of rumours to suggest Samsung will actually call the next Note the Galaxy Note 7, rather than the Galaxy Note 6, jumping a digit. Apparently, the change in name is to ensure the Note device lines up with the two other flagship devices…”
“Rumours suggest the Note 6 will continue the Super AMOLED trend but it looks like the display size could increase very slightly to 5.8-inches.”
The tech site is also keen to focus on potential new features: “Additionally, it has been claimed an iris scanner will be on board theNote 6 [sic]. This is something the blueprints from @OnLeaks suggested, as well as a leaked screenshot from Samsung's Galaxy Beta Program. Further details have been scarce though so it isn't clear if it would be infrared like Fujitsu, a light like the Lumia 950, or something more advanced. Or none of the above.”
Trusted Reviews is talking about when exactly the next big Galaxy smartphone will arrive: “Samsung is inconsistent when it comes to Galaxy Note release dates, so it makes the next one difficult to guess. The most recent rumour – via @Evleaks – points to a mid-August reveal.”
“…there’s talk of serious memory upgrades. Most notably, it’s suggested we’ll see 6GB of RAM, plus hyper-fast UFS 2.0 memory on a 256GB chip.”
“Finally, there’s talk of a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera on the Galaxy Note 6. That doesn’t tell us much, since image resolution is only a small part of a camera’s functionality. However, previous Galaxy Note handsets have offered impressive photography performance, so we’d be surprised if the Galaxy Note 6 was any different.”
The Verge sounds very confident about what the next big Samsung Galaxy smartphone will be called: “The next major Android phablet release from Samsung will be called the Galaxy Note 7 and will feature a dual-edge display, according to Korean carrier sources speaking anonymously to ET News.”
And Digital Trends is exploring the idea of a dual edge display, like the one that debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge: “Samsung hasn’t released an Edge version of the Galaxy Note since 2014, when it was announced alongside the Galaxy Note 4.
“Could Samsung offer an Edge version of the popular phablet this year? The latest indication one may arrive comes from a leaked render of what the Galaxy Note 7 may look like, and it has a dual-edge screen like the Galaxy S7 edge.”
