This season's Champions League final takes place on 28 May, and sees Real Madrid lock horns with their fellow Madrileños, Atlético Madrid.
It’s the last big match until Euro 2016 kicks off next month, and with players like Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema gracing the field, it should be worth watching. And the great news is that you can check out the action live, for free, on YouTube.
For the first time ever, BT Sport is live streaming the Champions League final on its YouTube channel. So if you’re out on Saturday night and can’t wait for your footie fix, all you need to do is head over to the BT Sport YouTube page.
The game itself kicks off at 19:45 UK time, but you can tune in from 18:00 to catch all the build-up.
The future of sport on YouTube
YouTube has live streamed smaller sports contests before but this will be the first time that a major sporting event will be streamed on the service for free. It makes sense for YouTube, as their most popular sporting videos are football ones. And it makes sense for BT Sport too, if it wants to make its name in the world of online sport.
John Petter, the chief executive of BT Consumer explains “We’ve always said we wanted to give top quality sport back to the people, and making the UEFA Champions League (and Europa League finals) free to everyone in the UK does this in a big way.”
That sounds good to us. We like the sound of free live football matches on YouTube, so let’s hope that this deal between BT and YouTube won’t be the last.
You’ll also be able to view the match live on BTSport.com. Or, if you want to go down the old-school route and watch it on an actual television, it’s on Freeview channel 59.
