Downloads of the week: Superheroes

Each week we recommend the best things to download from the app stores, to keep you bang up-to-date with the latest and greatest entertainment. And, on 25 March, Batman v Super: Dawn of Justice hits the flicks; so quite rightly, we’re looking at the best from the DC and Marvel superhero universes.

TV show
Batman, 1968

Can’t wait to see the Dark Knight’s return this Friday? Instead of delving headfirst into Chris Nolan’s chilling trilogy (again), you should check out the Caped Crusader in a charming previous life, played by a much less sinister Adam West.

Join Batman and The Boy Wonder, Robin (Burt Ward), as they tackle all kinds of 1960s mishaps in Gotham City. Expect plenty of “POW” and “ZAP” graphics, and some good old-fashioned life lessons from West’s Batman.

Available to download from the Google Play Store.

eBook
Comics by Comixology

We couldn’t really decide on just one book to support our favourite superheroes. After all, they were originally brought to life in the pages of comics, so in place an eBook, we’re recommending an app where you can enjoy all the big names.

Comics by Comixology is kind of like an app store, but for comics. The Amazon-owned app has a ginormous range of graphic e-novels by a the biggest names in the industry, including DC Comics, Marvel, Dark Horse, IDW, Boom! Studios to name just a few.

Film
Man of Steel, 2013

What better way to get in the mood for the ultimate DC showdown than catching up with Supes’ last city-levelling scrap with General Zod in Man of Steel?

Zack Snyder’s 2013 Superman remake introduced us to Henry Cavill as undercover Daily Planet journalist, Clark Kent for the first time. In it we see the son of Krypton come to terms with his alien heritage and future role on Earth, joined on screen by Amy Adams as occasional damsel in distress/love interest, Lois Lane.

Available to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes.
