Downloads for the Galaxy S7 & S7 edge

At last, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have arrived. These stunning Samsung smartphones are made for serious mobile gaming and VR (especially as lots of pre-orders included a Samsung Gear VR headset). Not only are they packed with cutting-edge 3D graphic technology, but their displays are the best you can get on a smartphone.

So without further ado, here are our choices of the best games and VR apps to showcase the abilities of the groundbreaking new Galaxys.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

For a 3D game that gives you a real adrenaline rush, look no further than Asphalt 8: Airborne.

There are some great racing games available on Android (honourable mentions go to Real Racing 3 and Need for Speed: No Limits), but this is the one for us.

Asphalt 8: Airborne lets you choose from 95 high-performance cars and race in 13 different settings from Iceland to the Nevada Desert. And if you get tired of speeding around tracks at breakneck speeds, you can hit a ramp and race through the air, performing wild aerial stunts as you go.

Unkilled

From Madfinger Games (the creators of Shadowgun and Dead Trigger) comes Unkilled, a first person shooter set in New York during a zombie outbreak. We're huge fans of its absurdly awesome graphics and intense gameplay.

Unkilled gives you over 300 missions to complete, with more than 50 deadly weapons, challenging boss fights, and an online player vs player mode. There are also quite a few side missions to earn extra goodies.

The best zombie shooter ever? For us, it’s a no-brainer.

Soulcalibur

Soulcalibur is the ultimate weapon-based 3D fighting game. It’s got gorgeous HD graphics, 19 characters to choose from, and various game modes from arcade to the insanely difficult extra survival mode.

Soulcalibur’s onscreen virtual gamepad works really well, but we’ve found our furiously flipping fingers hitting the wrong keys on a few occasions. This is where the ‘Lockdown’ feature on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will come in handy. It allows you to lock the ‘recent’ and ‘back’ keys, so you’re never in any danger of accidentally exiting the action

At £8.57, Soulcalibur isn’t exactly cheap. But on the plus side, there are no in-app purchases to worry about.

Download Soulcalibur now.

Flickr VR

You can now explore photos on Flickr in 360° with the Flickr VR app.

It’s a great introduction to the world of VR if you’ve got a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, and a Samsung Gear VR headset. Just snap your phone into the headset, download the app, and tap the Flickr logo to ‘energise’.

When you open the app you’ll see a carousel featuring the best of Flickr’s 360° shots. Tap one, and you’ll instantly be immersed in your chosen scene. There are literally tens of thousands of 360° Flickr photos, so you’ll always find something worth jumping into.

Here’s how to get Flickr VR:

1. Connect your phone to your Gear VR.
2. Click the 'Store' tab at the bottom of Oculus Home.
3. Swipe until you see Flickr VR and click install.

Gunjack

Prepare to be blown away by Gunjack. This virtual reality arcade shooter really has to be experienced to be believed, with its amazing graphics, intuitive controls and full-immersion action.

You take on the role as gun turret operator on a mining vessel somewhere in the Eve universe. And if you were hoping for a quiet day at work, unlucky. Pirates, opportunists and all manner of other bad guys are hell-bent on taking what belongs to the company you’re working for. So ‘look’ to aim, shoot everything that moves, and ask questions later. That’s how we play it…

Gunjack costs £8. Here’s how to get it:

1. Connect your phone to your Gear VR.
2. Click the 'Store' tab at the bottom of Oculus Home.
3. Swipe until you find Gunjack and click install.
